Special Education Associate / Teacher Aide
DutiesRESPONSIBILITIESSupport curriculum and instruction as outlined by the supervisor (e.g., implement instructional strategies, assist in the preparation of student materials)Assist supervising teacher with classroom activities and/or behavior management, as directed by the teacher or student services administratorWork collaboratively with supervisor and teamBuild and maintain effective communicationAttend to specific needs of the assigned student(s) which may include transfers, toileting and feedingSupervise student during lunch, recess, or before or after school as directed by the supervisorAssist with the operation and care of specialized equipmentAssist with various computer applications as trainedREPORTING RELATIONSHIPS: This position is directed on a daily basis by a supervising teacher or staff member. Educational Associates are formally evaluated at least 2 times a year by a building administrator with input from the supervising teacher or staff member.PHYSICAL DEMANDS: This position requires the physical ability to work with students and safely monitor their activities in classrooms, learning centers, cafeterias, playgrounds, etc. which might include sitting on the floor, using gym equipment, climbing steps and ladders, pushing student wheelchairs, and lifting/transferring students.QualificationsIllinois Paraprofessional License, Substitute Teaching License, or Professional Educator License REQUIREDHigh School diploma (or equivalent) or higher requiredPlease contact Human Resources for licensure assistance* Experience working with children helpful, evidence of patience and flexibilitySalary/BenefitsBASE HOURLY RATE:$18.00-$22.73 per hour depending on experience.An additional pay is given to those with a Substitute license, Bachelor's degree, or Master's degree.ILS Associates receive an additional 10% of their base hourly rate as an Intensive Educational Associate stipend.FLSA STATUS: Non-exemptBENEFITS INCLUDE:Board-paid single medical insuranceBoard-paid single dental insuranceLife insurance$500 contribution to FSA/HSA for Single HMO/HDHP enrollees12 Sick Days, 2 Personal Days8 Paid HolidaysFlex spending403(b) / 457(b) optionsIMRF enrollmentEmployee Assistance ProgramAdditional NotesPURPOSE: The primary role is to assist in facilitation of a well-organized, smoothly functioning educational environment where students with disabilities can take full advantage of the instructional program, available resource materials, and opportunities for socialization. This includes help with daily lessons, and projects on an individual and/or group basis.TERM OF EMPLOYMENT: Full-days (6 hours, 55 minutes per day) during the school year for 190 days.
