Security Engineer

A major enterprise client is seeking a Senior Security Engineer to support a 24x7 Security Operations Center (SOC) in Austin; TX. This is a hands-on perimeter engineering role supporting Managed Security Service Provider (MSSP) functions including Tier 1 through Tier 3 security monitoring; threat and vulnerability management; and incident response. You will be onsite at a government sector customer facility.What You Will DoProvision; configure; and maintain Palo Alto and Fortinet firewalls in on-premise and cloud environmentsConfigure and manage Imperva and FortiGate Web Application Firewall (WAF) platformsDevelop and maintain firewall and WAF rule sets and security policiesPerform patch management for MSSP and customer security toolsAnalyze network traffic to identify anomalous activity and potential threatsDocument and escalate security incidents including event history; status; and impactCreate and maintain procedures and work instructions for Tier 2 through Tier 3 staffProvide cybersecurity recommendations to leadership on significant threats and vulnerabilitiesTrain and mentor junior engineers as neededWork rotating shift and on-call schedule as requiredWhat You Bring8+ years of network IT implementation or network design experience; with 5+ years on a Perimeter Security teamDemonstrated hands-on experience engineering and troubleshooting Palo Alto and FortiGate firewall platformsWorking knowledge of Palo Alto Panorama or FortiNet FortiManagerStrong understanding of TCP/IP; OSI model; DNS; DHCP; and network security architectureKnowledge of incident response methodologies; defense-in-depth principles; and attack stagesCompTIA Security+ (required)Active US citizenship; ability to pass CJIS and additional customer background checksNice to HavePalo Alto PCNSE or Fortinet NSE4+CEH; GCIH; ECIH; or equivalentCloud certifications; CompTIA Network+; Azure Sentinel experienceSIEM integration experienceWindows Active Directory and Linux OS familiarityPacket analysis with Wireshark or tcpdump
