Cyber Software Development Engineer (C5) Location: Sterling Heights, MI Pay Rate: $73–$84/hourPosition Overview Join an agile, self-motivated engineering team supporting embedded cyber development for a family of ground combat vehicles. This role supports the Cyber and C5ISR product realization team, contributing to architecture, development, testing, evaluation, and compliance activities across embedded military platforms.This is a hands-on embedded software engineering role focused on cybersecurity integration, real-time operating systems, and secure system interoperability within ground combat vehicle environments.Key Responsibilities Develop embedded cyber software for target hardware platformsApply computer science and engineering principles to software design and implementationSupport Cyber and C5ISR architecture and product development activitiesParticipate in all phases of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC): Requirements analysisDesignImplementationIntegrationFormal testingDevelop and maintain software tools, scripts, and XML configuration filesImplement and verify secure configurations in embedded Linux environmentsMaintain accreditation and configuration control complianceDevelop protocol transformation mechanisms to enable secure interoperability between data domainsPerform low-level and device driver programming in Linux or VxWorks environmentsIntegrate and configure firewalls for embedded systems protectionConduct trade studies related to cyber test design, environments, and tool selectionSupport development and review of design artifacts and CDRLsParticipate in peer reviews and defect resolutionMinimum Qualifications Bachelor's Degree in a STEM discipline (Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering preferred) from an ABET-accredited universityStrong proficiency in high-level programming languages (C, C++, C#, Java, or Rust)Experience with embedded systems developmentExperience with Linux or VxWorks operating system internalsExperience with Board Support Packages (BSP) and hardware/software integrationLow-level device driver developmentExperience with network protocols (TCP/IP, UART, SPI, I2C)Familiarity with IDEs, version control systems, defect tracking, scripting, and CI/CD pipelinesExperience interpreting customer requirements and flowing down to technical implementationFamiliarity with electronic hardware troubleshootingExperience in cybersecurity integration for embedded systemsMandatory Qualifications Active DoD Secret clearance or higher (required)Experience developing and implementing cybersecurity protections for embedded systemsExperience in embedded systems within automotive or military environmentsAbility to work non-duty hours or weekends as requiredMust meet anthropometric size restrictions for military vehicle access and be able to climb vehicles and pass through hatchesPreferred Qualifications Experience with reverse engineering and software analysisExperience with C5ISR systems integrationCybersecurity certifications (CISSP, CEH, etc.)Why Join CPI?
