Performance Optimization ConsultantWe're looking for an experienced Performance Optimization Consultant to assess and improve the performance of a high-transaction airline application covering ticketing, scheduling, and check-in. The system includes legacy code migrated from mainframe assembler to C, integrated with PostgreSQL, and running on Azure Virtual Machines. The role focuses on identifying bottlenecks and recommending targeted, low-impact optimizations.Key ResponsibilitiesPerform end-to-end performance analysis across C code, PostgreSQL, and Azure infrastructureIdentify CPU, memory, I/O, database, and network bottlenecksReview and optimize translated C codeTune database queries, indexing, and schema designRecommend minor code, configuration, and infrastructure improvementsDocument findings and deliver a performance improvement planRequired SkillsStrong C programming and performance tuning expertiseExperience with legacy system migrations (Assembler to C)Advanced PostgreSQL optimization (query tuning, indexing, pooling)Hands-on Azure VM performance monitoring and tuningExperience with profiling tools (e.g., gprof, perf)Ability to deliver practical optimizations without major redesignsPreferredBackground in TPF or mainframe-based systemsExperience with high-transaction environments (airline or similar)Knowledge of Azure scaling and cost-performance tradeoffs
