WATER METER MECHANIC - WTR DISTRIBUTION

BRIEF DESCRIPTION The purpose of this position is to maintain the distribution of water and the collection of wastewaters. This is accomplished by preparing job sites, installing, cleaning and repairing water and sewer lines; maintaining water and sewer lines, replacing pipes, cleaning and changing meters, cleaning and changing equipment; and cleaning the shop. Other duties include assisting operators and completing related assigned tasks. This position is expected to regularly work in or around bodies of water greater in depth than 4 feet, which may pose hazard, especially in the absence of swimming ability. Code Essential Functions 1 L Regular and reliable attendance in compliance with given schedules is a mandatory requirement of this position. Schedules may be subject to change with or without advance notice 2 M Tests meters by inspecting for possible repair, scrubbing and cleaning meters, grouping into appropriate size and style, completing testing, rebuilding meters that failed test, and tagging meters that passed testing and inspection. 3 M Calibrates meters by reviewing standards, measuring water registered to standards, and adjusting based on those standards. 4 M Completes shipping and receiving duties by inspecting meters, and sending larger meters to manufacturers for testing. 5 H Installs large meters by contacting customers, coordinating work with customers, turning off water, disassembling meter, installing and testing, restoring water service, and flushing air from the system. 6 L Maintains records by recording work completed on large meters, posting information into databases, completing memos regarding meters to be added or removed from inventory, maintaining inventories, and providing information to supervision. Physical Demands Medium to heavy work that involves walking, standing, stooping, lifting, digging, pushing and raising objects and also involves exerting between 20 to 50 pounds of force on a regular basis and/or 50 to 100 pounds of force on an occasional basis. Equipment Usage Handles or uses machines, tools, or equipment requiring moderate instruction and experience such as large shop equipment and machines, firefighting apparatus, protective equipment, gang mowers, tractors, vehicles, police vehicles or light trucks, firearms, computers, peripherals, medical or dental equipment, software programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, or custom applications, switchboard; or may repair power tools and light equipment and office machines. Unavoidable Hazards Works where exposure to bodily injury from electrical shock is a possibility such as operating high voltage equipment or repairing electrical generating equipment; or works in high, exposed places with risk of falling such as on power lines or scaffolding.
