Learn more about our extraordinary teams building inspiring projects in our Impact Report.Job Summary:The Senior Field Project Controls Engineer is responsible for integrating field planning, cost control, and productivity analysis to drive predictable, efficient, and cost-effective project execution.This role operates at the interface between construction, planning, and cost engineering, working directly in the field with superintendents, discipline leads, and contractors to ensure:Work is properly sequenced and executableProductivity is measured, understood, and continuously improvedCost performance is tracked, forecasted, and aligned with execution realityThe position plays a critical role in turning schedule and budget into actionable field insights, enabling proactive decision-making and early intervention.Major Responsibilities:Analyze short-interval plans (3-week / 90-day lookaheads) aligned with the master scheduleBreak down schedules into field-executable work packages and sequencesValidate constructability, sequencing, and execution logic with field teamsSupport weekly planning, coordination, and workface planning sessionsSupport development and monitoring of field-installed quantities, labor costs, and installed unitsPrepare and maintain cost forecasts based on: Actual performance trendsProductivity ratesRemaining quantities and execution strategyPerform cost analysis using historical data and current performance trendsEnsure alignment between field progress, earned value, and cost reportingTrack and analyze craft productivity and installed quantities vs. planIdentify: Productivity gapsInefficiencies and constraintsOpportunities for improvementDevelop and maintain productivity benchmarks using historical and project dataPartner with construction to implement improvement actionsIntegrate schedule, cost, and field data to provide real-time performance insightsDevelop dashboards and analysis tools (Excel/Power BI) to support field decision-makingProvide actionable recommendations to Project Controls and Construction leadershipSupport trend program and change analysisWork closely with: Superintendents and discipline leadsField engineers and Work Front Planning teamsProject Controls (planning, cost)Support client reporting and reviews where requiredEnsure alignment between field execution and project controls strategiesEducation and Experience Requirements:Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or related disciplineTypically 8-15+ years experience in: Field Planning/scheduling, Cost Engineering/Control, Productivity measurement and benchmarkingRequired Knowledge and Skills:Strong understanding of construction sequencing and field execution, Cost control and forecasting methods and productivity measurement and benchmarkingProficiency in Excel, Power BI, Power BI, Project Controls systems ( EcoSys, DSCS, Primavera P6)Ability to translate data into practical field actionsStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsTotal Rewards/Benefits:For decades, Bechtel has worked to inspire the next generation of employees and beyond!
