Bankruptcy Paralegal
Dethlefs Pykosh & Murphy is seeking an experienced Bankruptcy Paralegal to join a high-volume, fast-paced bankruptcy practice. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly organized, and able to manage cases independently from intake through discharge.
This position requires prior hands-on bankruptcy experience. We are looking for someone who understands the process, timelines, and court requirements and can confidently support both Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 matters. This is a high-volume practice with multiple active cases at various stages. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment and is comfortable managing completing deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and file Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 petitions, schedules, statements, and amendments
Draft motions and related bankruptcy pleadings
Conduct detailed client intake and gather required financial documentation
Review income records, tax returns, bank statements, and creditor information for accuracy
Prepare means test calculations
E-file documents using CM/ECF
Monitor case deadlines and court notices
Prepare clients for 341 Meetings of Creditors
Communicate with trustees, creditors, and court staff
Track Chapter 13 plan confirmations and payment updates
Maintain organized case files and update case management systems
Required Qualifications
Minimum 3+ years of bankruptcy paralegal experience (Chapter 7 and Chapter 13 required)
Experience preparing full bankruptcy petitions independently
Proficiency with CM/ECF filing system
Strong working knowledge of federal bankruptcy procedures and timelines
Experience with BestCase software
Strong Microsoft Office skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
Comfortable reviewing financial documents and calculating means test data
Preferred Qualifications
Paralegal certificate or degree
Experience in a high-volume bankruptcy practice
Experience preparing motions
