Job Description Assignment OverviewLocation: Cumberland, MarylandStart Dates: Various dates from May 2026 to January 2027Monthly Shifts: 7Schedule: 24-hour call from 7 AM to 7 AM or 12-hour night call from 7 PM to 7 AMAverage Admissions During Call: 1 - 3Trauma Level: Level IIIOn-Site Requirement: Not needed after rounding; 30-minute response timeMid-Level Provider Coverage: AvailableMid-Level Shift Times: 7 AM to 7 AMAverage Admissions While On Call: 1 - 3Average Cases Per Day: 1 - 3, totaling approximately 133 annuallyYour ResponsibilitiesConduct morning rounds with the Physician Assistant (PA) and perform any necessary procedures throughout the day.The PA will handle incoming calls, with the surgeon being contacted only for urgent or emergency situations.Rounding typically lasts 2-4 hours, depending on the number of surgical patients from the previous week, usually alongside the assigned PA.Typical Cases Include: Open Heart, Carotid, and potentially lung surgeries.PAs are authorized to perform Endovascular Saphenous Vein Harvesting (EVH).Consultations are managed by the PA and discussed with the physician via phone to decide on subsequent actions.QualificationsBoard Certification: Must be certified in cardiac surgery or both cardiac and thoracic surgery.Certifications Required: ACLS, BLSLicensure: Active MD or IMLC licenseExperience: Minimum of 2 yearsCredentialing Timeframe: 30 daysWhy You'll Appreciate This LocationExperience a delightful small-town atmosphere nestled amidst the stunning Appalachian Mountains and the Potomac River.
