Shop Helper

Founded in 1972 and located in Newberg, Oregon, Action Vibratory Equipment (a subsidiary of Webster Industries Inc.) is committed to the design and manufacture of custom material-handling equipment and solutions. We serve industries and customers worldwide, including sawmills, foundries, power plants, recycling facilities and more. Summary/Objective Shop helpers are the primary source of general labor for the fabrication department. They perform the majority of all prep-work and manual assembly tasks in order for the production team to produce equipment in the most efficient manner. Shop helpers may be trained in a variety of tasks ranging from equipment and tool operation to painting, welding, basic fabrication, and general shop maintenance. They are also responsible for maintaining a safe and orderly working environment. Utilize various hand tools and power tools to grind, cut, punch, prepare, paint, and assemble steel parts and equipment Work positively with team members including welders, fitters, and other shop personnel in order to maximize efficiency and provide support as necessary Accurately follow the instructions given by the production leadership team Cleaning and maintaining an orderly working environment for the shop Operating overhead cranes to lift and moving materials, parts, and equipment Adhere to all safety policies and procedures to ensure a safe working environment Competencies Willingness to learn Integrity – honest and ethical Respectful – follows directions and work as a member of a team Cooperation – positive attitude and pleasant with others Independence – take initiative with minimal direction and be flexible in meeting the immediate needs of the department Ability to work in a fast-paced environment Work Environment Shop helpers will work primarily on the shop floor with occasional exposure to the steel yard and warehouse. Employees in the shop are exposed to consistent levels of noise caused by hand and power tools with ear protection required at all times. Temperatures in the shop will vary depending on the season and outdoor temperature. Little to no exposure to sun, rain, and/or snow. Physical Demands While performing the duties of the position, a shop helper is required to frequently stand, walk, kneel, squat, stoop, carry/lift, push/pull, and reach (overhead, at and below shoulder level) with their arms/hands. Shop helper lifting requirements are as follows: Lifting < 5 lbs. – 50-75% of the time; 5 – 10 lbs. 10 – 20% of the time; 10 – 20 lbs. 10 – 20% of the time; 20 – 40 lbs. 0 – 10% of the time; 40 – 50 lbs. – 0 – 5% of the time. This position also requires visual acuity, with or without corrective eyewear. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position, and scheduled days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 7:00am to 3:30pm. Occasional weekend work is optional and may be offered as workload demands. Required Education and Experience/Skills Basic reading, writing and math skills Ability to accurately read a tape measure Ability to follow written and verbal instructions Ability to work productively and efficiently as part of team and independently Preferred Education and Experience/Skills Bilingual (English/Spanish) – verbal and written Experience using hand tools and power tools Experience working in a manufacturing/production setting especially working with steel or other metal products Pay: $16.00 - $20.00 per hour, depending on experience.
