Senior Manager of Technical AccountingThis position sits within a high-growth, private equity-backed organization that is actively scaling through acquisitions and building a best-in-class, remote-first accounting function.The Senior Manager of Technical Accounting is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the organization’s most complex accounting areas, including financial statement preparation, technical accounting research, tax coordination, equity accounting, lease accounting under ASC 842, and foreign entity accounting and FX translation under ASC 830.This role operates at the intersection of GAAP interpretation, financial reporting, and cross-functional collaboration within a complex, multi-entity environment. The position leads year-end financial reporting and audit coordination, serves as the primary authority on technical accounting matters, and partners closely with tax advisors, legal, finance, and operational leadership to ensure accuracy, compliance, and scalability as the organization grows.Key ResponsibilitiesTechnical Accounting & GAAP OversightServe as the primary technical accounting expert, providing guidance on complex and non-routine transactions.Conduct technical accounting research and prepare formal accounting memos across areas including revenue recognition (ASC 606), leases (ASC 842), equity arrangements, VIEs, and foreign currency matters (ASC 830).Develop, maintain, and enforce accounting policies to ensure consistent application of U.S. GAAP.Advise leadership on accounting implications of new business initiatives, contracts, and strategic transactions.Financial Reporting & CloseLead the preparation of annual and interim consolidated financial statements, including footnotes and disclosures.Own the year-end close and financial reporting process, ensuring accurate, timely, and audit-ready deliverables.Oversee reporting systems (e.g., Workiva or equivalent), ensuring consistency and alignment across reporting requirements.Review complex journal entries, reconciliations, and period-end adjustments with a focus on audit readiness.Drive continuous improvements in close efficiency, documentation quality, and reporting processes.Audit CoordinationServe as the primary liaison with external auditors, managing timelines, deliverables, and audit requests.Ensure complete and accurate documentation supporting all technical accounting conclusions.Equity & Complex StructuresOversee equity accounting across a multi-entity structure, including joint ventures, subsidiaries, and non-controlling interests.Maintain ownership schedules, allocations, and distribution accounting in accordance with governing agreements.Ensure accurate consolidation conclusions and disclosures under ASC 810.Partner with legal and finance teams on equity transactions and ownership changes.Foreign Entity Accounting & FXOversee accounting and reporting for international entities in accordance with U.S. GAAP.Manage foreign currency translation and remeasurement under ASC 830, including FX gains/losses and CTA activity.Establish and maintain consistent FX methodologies and review related journal entries and disclosures.Partner with tax, treasury, and finance teams on cross-border accounting considerations.Lease Accounting (ASC 842)Own the lease accounting function, including system administration, journal entries, and financial disclosures.Prepare supporting schedules and audit documentation related to lease accounting.Tax CoordinationPartner with external tax advisors to support compliance across federal, state, local, and international jurisdictions.Provide financial data required for tax filings and support tax planning initiatives.Cross-Functional CollaborationPartner with legal, finance, operations, and external advisors on acquisitions, joint ventures, and strategic initiatives.Evaluate accounting implications of new business structures and support post-acquisition integration activities. Skills & RequirementsBachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA required.8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 3 years in a technical accounting role and prior management experience.Strong expertise in U.S. GAAP, including complex areas such as revenue recognition, leases, equity accounting, and multi-entity structures.Proven experience preparing financial statements and managing external audits.Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics, along with advanced Excel skills.Background in multi-entity environments with exposure to acquisitions, joint ventures, or complex corporate structures.Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to mentor teams and collaborate cross-functionally.Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment while managing ambiguity and competing priorities.
