Environmental Health Safety Specialist
Position Summary
The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining environmental, health, and safety programs to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and promote a safe, sustainable workplace. This role partners closely with production, maintenance, and leadership teams to reduce risk, prevent incidents, and foster a culture of safety within a manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Develop, implement, and maintain EHS policies, procedures, and programs in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, and risk assessments to identify hazards and ensure corrective actions are completed.
Lead incident investigations, including root cause analysis, and implement preventive measures.
Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and other applicable regulations and standards.
Manage environmental programs including waste disposal, air emissions, water discharge, and chemical handling.
Coordinate and deliver safety training programs (e.g., PPE, lockout/tagout, hazard communication, emergency response).
Maintain and update Safety Data Sheets (SDS) and chemical inventory systems.
Track and report EHS metrics (e.g., incident rates, near misses, compliance status).
Support emergency preparedness and response planning, including drills and evacuation procedures.
Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate safety into daily operations and continuous improvement initiatives.
Serve as a point of contact for regulatory inspections and audits.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Occupational Health & Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or related field (preferred)
Experience:
2–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment
Experience with regulatory compliance and safety program management
Knowledge & Skills:
Strong knowledge of OSHA standards and environmental regulations
Familiarity with ISO 14001 and/or ISO 45001 standards (preferred)
Experience conducting risk assessments and incident investigations
Excellent communication, training, and interpersonal skills
Strong organizational and problem-solving abilities
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and EHS management systems
Certifications (Preferred)
Certified Safety Professional (CSP)
Occupational Health and Safety Technologist (OHST)
HAZWOPER certification
Working Conditions
Primarily based in a manufacturing facility with exposure to machinery, noise, and varying temperatures
Requires regular floor presence, including walking, standing, and occasional lifting
May require occasional travel or off-hours support
