Instil is a modern, purpose-built platform designed to help nonprofit teams work more effectively, understand their communities more deeply, and operate with the sophistication of the best modern software companies.We’re in a pivotal stage as a company and are looking for a Frontend Engineer (Mid-Senior Level) to help us raise the bar on product quality, user experience, and technical execution.The roleYou’ll work closely with product, design, and backend engineering to build thoughtful, polished, high-performance user experiences across the Instil platform.This is a great role for someone who cares deeply about craft - someone who sweats the details, moves quickly, and wants to help shape both the product and the engineering culture of the company.We’re also looking for someone who is excited about the role AI can play in both how software gets built and what software can do. That means using AI tools to accelerate development where appropriate, and helping build AI-powered features that create real value for our users.If you want to work on meaningful problems, help define the product experience, and have real ownership and meaningful influence on the product and engineering culture at Instil, we’d love to talk.We are remote-first, with a preference for candidates based in or around Los Angeles.What you’ll doBuild and ship high-quality front end experiences across Instil’s core productCollaborate closely with product, design, and backend engineering to turn ideas into intuitive, elegant workflowsHelp shape our front end architecture, patterns, and standards as the product and team evolveBuild reusable components and contribute to a scalable design systemImprove performance, accessibility, responsiveness, and overall UX quality across the platformStrengthen our testing practices, code quality, and development workflowsUse AI-enabled development tools thoughtfully to improve speed, quality, and efficiencyHelp design and build AI-powered product experiences, including interfaces that incorporate model-driven workflows and outputsContribute ideas, challenge assumptions, and help us make smart product and technical decisionsWhat we’re looking forRoughly 4-8 years of experience building modern web applicationsStrong experience with React and TypeScriptExperience with modern front end frameworks such as Next.js is a plusStrong fundamentals in HTML, CSS, and JavaScriptExperience building reusable UI components, systems, or design librariesExperience with front end testing tools such as Jest or Vitest, and E2E testing with Playwright or CypressFamiliarity with REST and/or GraphQL APIsStrong instincts around usability, performance, accessibility, and responsive designComfort working in a fast-moving startup environment with a high degree of ownershipExperience using AI tools to accelerate engineering workflowsFamiliarity with building AI-powered product features, such as LLM-based experiences, prompt workflows, or model-backed interfacesStrong communication skills and a collaborative, low-ego working styleNice to haveExperience with React Query, Relay, or similar data-fetching approachesExperience with AWSExperience designing UX around AI features, including review states, confidence, iteration, and fallback behaviorExperience in both startup and more established software environmentsInterest in mission-driven products or the nonprofit spaceWhy this role mattersFront end quality is a huge part of how users experience Instil. The work you do here will directly shape how nonprofit teams manage relationships, track progress, collaborate internally, and take action.This is not a role where you’ll just be handed tickets.
