Litigation ParalegalBrooks Kushman is seeking an experienced Litigation Paralegal to join our team in our Royal Oak, MI office. The Litigation Paralegal supports attorneys in all phases of intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, and trade secret disputes. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and experience managing complex litigation matters in federal courts, administrative proceedings, and alternative dispute forums. The ideal candidate is proactive, technically adept, and comfortable handling multiple matters with competing deadlines.Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:Key ResponsibilitiesLitigation SupportAssist attorneys with all phases of litigation, from pre‐filing through trial and post‐judgmentDraft, proofread, and format pleadings, motions, discovery requests and responses, subpoenas, exhibits, and correspondenceManage filings in federal and state courts, including electronic filings via CM/ECF and other jurisdiction‐specific systemsPrepare and maintain matter chronologies, case summaries, and litigation status reportsTrack deadlines and ensure compliance with court rules and ordersDiscovery & Evidence ManagementAssist with discovery efforts, including document collection, review, production, and privilege logsCoordinate with attorneys, vendors, and clients on e‐discovery processes and platformsOrganize and manage document databases and trial exhibitsAssist with preparation for depositions, including deposition notices, exhibit binders, and summariesSupport fact and expert witness preparationIP‐Specific Litigation TasksAssist with matters involving patent infringement, trademark disputes, licensing disputes, and trade secret claimsHelp manage technical documents, prior art, prosecution histories, and product documentationCoordinate with patent prosecution teams as needed for litigation supportAssist with PTAB proceedings, ITC investigations, or international IP disputes, where applicableTrial & Hearing SupportPrepare trial binders, exhibit lists, witness lists, and demonstrativesCoordinate logistics for hearings, depositions, and trials (in‐person and remote)Provide onsite or virtual trial support as neededAdministrative & Practice SupportMaintain accurate records in document management and docketing systemsAssist with client communications and coordinationSupport attorneys with billing entries related to paralegal tasksContribute to process improvement initiatives and best practices within the litigation teamQualificationsRequiredAssociate's degree or bachelor's degree; paralegal certificate helpfulMinimum of 5 years of litigation paralegal experience, preferably in an IP or complex litigation practiceStrong knowledge of federal court procedures and e‐filing systemsExperience managing discovery and document productionExcellent organizational, proofreading, and communication skillsAbility to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast‐paced environmentProficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and legal document management systemsPreferredPrior experience in patent or other IP litigationFamiliarity with PTAB or ITC proceedingsExperience with e‐discovery platforms (e.g., Relativity or similar tools)Experience supporting trials or evidentiary hearingsKnowledge of legal citation and formatting standardsCore CompetenciesAttention to detail and accuracyStrong time management and prioritization skillsAbility to work independently and as part of a teamProfessional discretion and confidentialityComfort working with highly technical subject matterWork Environment & ExpectationsCollaborative, team‐oriented IP litigation practiceMay require overtime during trial preparation, hearings, or critical deadlinesHybrid work arrangements with a minimum of 3 days per week in the officeBrooks Kushman extends equal employment opportunities to qualified applicants and employees on an equal basis regardless of an individual's age, race, color, sex, religion, national origin, disability, veteran status, sexual orientation, or any other reason prohibited by law.
