Director, Examination Readiness
Job Summary The Director, Examination Readiness leads the development, operations, and management of end-to-end examination readiness products for outcomes-based activities aligned with ASCP strategic priorities, including product roadmaps, schedules, and lifecycle assessment. The Director serves as staff liaison to volunteer product committees, communities of practice (including program directors, learners, accreditation and professional examination agencies) and collaborates with cross-functional teams, learning designers, vendors, data scientists, and IT to coordinate content development, peer review, platform configuration, and quality instructional design meeting the needs of learners. The Director monitors product performance, customer feedback, competitive landscape, and financials to drive continuous improvement, policy refinement, platform modernization, innovative strategies, accurate data, effective resources, and new product opportunities.Special CharacteristicsThe Director will elevate assessment, measurement, evaluation, and examination outcomes in the design and development of data collection, analysis, presentation, and systematic implementation of activities related to ASCP's mission-driven goals.The Director will demonstrate exceptional engagement experiences and flexibility in handling rapidly changing, innovative work requirements and competing requests.Duties and ResponsibilitiesDevelop and oversee the full lifecycle of the design, development, assessment, and optimization of existing and new high-quality examination readiness products (e.g., interactive practice exams, all in-service examinations, online courses, etc.) aligned to ASCP's strategic priorities.Coordinate end-to-end content development workflows for a growing number of item banks, including item authoring, structured peer review, editorial refinement, copyediting, and final approval.Develop, implement, evaluate, and align policies and procedures for item bank composition, and item quality and difficulty level in alignment with target examination blueprints and other publicly available relevant data.Design and manage standardized processes for subject matter expertise (SME) contribution and engagement, peer evaluation, and revision cycles to ensure consistency, efficiency, and transparency across large, distributed volunteer committees.Accountable lead for all examination and board preparation product lines using best practices in test development and maintenance, curriculum development, technology, and adult learning theory.Develop and maintain annual product development procedures to maximize operational efficiency.Configure, upload, and test new products in online delivery platform(s), including optimizing the formatting of all content components: question stems, distractors, associated images and their citations, explanations, references, and learner feedback.Interpret learner performance data to inform item revisions, bank calibration, and benchmarking strategies, informed by statistics and data insights / analyticsProvide performance evidence in dashboards and other visually apparent reports.Evaluate product surveys and customer feedback to monitor performance; identify opportunities for improvement/revisions/new product development.Serve as staff liaison to subject matter expert (SME) product committees to support content ownership while providing structured editorial and quality oversight; drive recruitment for committee members from ASCP's volunteer pool; schedule and lead regular committee meetings.Collaborate with other internal and external stakeholders, such as:Cross-functional teams, to determine priorities and formats for product development.Publications staff, to coordinate content for inclusion in future editions of ASCP Press BOC Study Guides.Learning experience designers, to ensure the development of high-quality online education aligned with best practices in instructional design and adult learning theory.External vendors and information technology staff, to assess platform capabilities, troubleshoot issues, and optimize delivery of digital products.Stay abreast of developments and lead competitive landscape for examination readiness products, as well as with best practices in item bank design, psychometrics, medical education, as well as LMS functionality, to inform innovation and strategic planning.Develop and monitor product revenues and expenses; establish and track non-financial key performance indicators (KPIs) related to item bank quality, usage, learner feedback and outcomes, and operational efficiency.Prepare reports and recommendations for leadership regarding products and future development priorities.Program Director Engagement Strategy:Identify the evolving needs of program directors and translate insights into a strategic roadmap of initiatives that enhance student readiness-particularly in communication, leadership, and professionalism.Create and implement curriculum-aligned tools, learning modules, and faculty resources that integrate soft skills into training programs and improve student career preparedness.Lead initiatives to expand awareness, integration, and sustained usage of examination readiness tools across programs by addressing barriers, optimizing value, etc.Strategic Planning:Collaborates with volunteers, colleagues, and leadership to design, develop, and deploy innovative evaluation techniques and enhance learning activitiesResearches and develops new technology-based productsWorks with committees, vendors, and team to craft business plans for implementationDelivers strategic assessments and analytics to the ASCP Commission on Continuing Professional DevelopmentParticipates in cross-functional teams to move ASCP organizational initiatives forwardAssumes additional duties as assigned that contribute to the organization/division's strategic goals and tactical outcomesTeam Engagement:Supervises and mentors teamProvides formal and informal feedbackDelegates authority as appropriateConducts performance reviewsSets team priorities based on department, division and organizational goalsFinancial Management:Develops and monitors budgets for the department and its programs; Must be flexible, a quick thinker, and self-directed.Education and Experience:Educational Background-Bachelor's degree with course work or equivalent experience in laboratory sciences.Master's degree in adult education, business administration, or instructional technology is preferred. Expertise in medical and/or laboratory education/adult education/CE activities a plus.Experience- Supervisory, management, and/or project management experience of 5+ years. Working knowledge of laboratory medicine and/or pathology.Experience working in a professional association environment with volunteer committees preferred. Medical specialty society experience a plus.Education and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Education, or related field required; Master's degree preferred.Minimum 5-7 years of progressive experience in medical laboratory, non-profit organization, or related leadership roles.Experience supervising professional staff.Experience working in a professional association environment preferred.Job Conditions
