Specialist III - Multilingual Communications

The Specialist III - Multilingual Communications manages the delivery of high-quality translation and interpretation services to ensure equitable communication for all City Schools families and stakeholders. This role oversees the full-service lifecycle, including vendor coordination, workflow management for bilingual staff, and the maintenance of digital resource hubs. The Specialist also serves as a technical expert and strategic advocate by assisting schools and central offices in developing Language Access plans, providing training to school and district staff on multilingual communications best practices, and managing requests for vendor translation and interpretation services. The Specialist champions strategic vision for Multilingual Access in City Schools by providing administrative support for the Multilingual Access Steering Committee, building relationships with stakeholders, and collaborating with leadership to implement a district-wide vision for inclusive language access.Essential FunctionsReceive translation and interpretation requests from Central Offices and schools. Coordinate services through vendors using approved platforms and scheduling tools. Ensure timely, reliable delivery of services; provide exemplary communication and customer services to school and district staff.Collect and analyze feedback on service quality and provide regular input to the Multilingual Communications Manager to ensure quality of translation and interpretation vendors.Establish a cohort of trained, bilingual staff to support fulfillment of translation requests, coordinate staff assignments, manage workflows, and assess quality of staff work products, adjusting assignments as needed.Manage electronic systems for coordinating fulfillment of translation and interpretation service requests. Establish processes for other staff to utilize electronic systems and train staff on processes.Provide administrative support for the Multilingual Access Steering Committee, including scheduling committee meetings, communicating with committee members, translating committee materials, keeping meeting minutes, and other administrative tasks.Develop and manage a central hub of pre-translated documents. Identify and prioritize documents to translate and add to the central hub.Maintain a working knowledge of best practices in Language Access and Multilingual Communications.Provide technical assistance to Central Office departments and schools to develop and implement individualized Multilingual Access plans. Collaborate with the Family Engagement Office to develop and lead regular trainings about multilingual business practices and language access strategies for Central Offices and school staff.Collaborate with the Family Engagement Office to provide tailored, ongoing technical assistance for Central Offices and school staff.Assist the Manager of Multilingual Communications in setting strategic vision for Multilingual Access in City Schools.Assist in setting strategic vision for the Multilingual Access Steering Committee.Represent the Multilingual Communications team in all interactions with stakeholders; serve as a champion for Multilingual Access in City Schools.Build and maintain strong relationships with district and school staff, students, families, and community partners to support implementation of strategic vision for Multilingual Access in City Schools.Maximum Salary 129933.00Minimum Salary 85709.00Desired QualificationsRequired:Bachelor's degree in Education, Communications, Language Access, Linguistics, or related social sciences or humanities field.Familiarity with interpretation, translation standards, and language access tools.Strong communication and organizational skills, with a focus on collaboration.Experience working with diverse communities, particularly multilingual students and families.Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a large organization and fast-paced environment.Ability to exercise independent judgment, work quickly to analyze problems and recommend workable solutions including the planning and implementation of those solutions.Comfort using Microsoft Teams, Google Workspace, and virtual collaboration tools.Preferred:Fluency in one of City Schools' top languages: Spanish, Arabic, French, or Swahili.Familiarity with Baltimore City Public Schools and multilingual communities served by Baltimore City Public Schools.Full time or Part time Full timeAdditional DetailsQualified candidates for the above position must submit the following:Completed online applicationResume that clearly demonstrates the above minimum qualifications.
