Sr Quality EngineerORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTUREBUSINESS: Leslie Controls, IncLOCATION: Tampa, FLDIRECT REPORTING: Senior Quality ManagerPosition SummaryThe purpose of this role is to carry out a wide range of Quality Assurance activities at Leslie Controls in Tampa, Florida. The Senior Quality Engineer shall support the business in the areas of new product development, lean implementation, process capability improvement, daily production support, project management, technical data interpretation/analysis (engineering drawings, specifications, technical publications, component maintenance manuals, purchase orders, etc.), and quality system management. With an initial focus on in-service defects.Principal ActivitiesDrive manufacturing process capability improvements through variation reduction, error-proofing, and implementation of statistical process controlCollect and analyze data to identify and prioritize opportunities for improvement of product and process qualityProvide leadership on problem solving teams to drive root cause analyses and corrective/preventive action plansKey quality representative on new product introduction teams responsible for contract review and driving design-for-quality on new product introduction teamsManage major program manufacturing process qualificationManage supplier quality and provide support for supplier quality developmentPerform product reliability studiesValidate and respond to corrective and preventive action requests (from both internal and external customers)Provide quality witness on tear down of customer returned materialParticipate on Material Review Board and Configuration Control BoardDevelop process flow charts/diagrams and process failure mode effects analyses reportsCreate statistically valid control plans for manufacturing processesUse of lean and six sigma tools to drive variation reductionConduct and participate in quality system, process, and product auditsProvide technical leadership to inspection team membersSupport product/process certifications and approvalsComply with all company policies/proceduresComply with all military and contractual requirementsPerform other job-related duties as assigned by managementCandidate RequirementsKnowledge Skills & AbilitiesKnowledge of manufacturing operations required.High ethical standards. Models and supports organization’s goals and values; adapts to changing conditions; demonstrates persistence and overcomes obstacles.Strong business/technical writing, presentation, planning, problem solving, organizational, project management and decision-making skills.Six sigma tools and methodology; green belt or black belt experience is a plusLean manufacturing practices to improve product/process qualityExcellent problem solving skills aimed at identifying and correcting the root causes of problemsDemonstrated working knowledge of problem solving tools: 5-Whys, failure mode and effects analysis, 8-D, Pareto analysis, fault tree analysis, Bayesian inference and Ishikawa diagramsDemonstrated ability to create and implement statistically valid control plans and audit plansWorking knowledge of inspection metrology and proper application of automated measuring equipmentExcellent working knowledge of geometric dimensioning and tolerancingAbility to create and/or review failure analysis reports and perform dimensional tolerance stack up analysesThorough knowledge of Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, Project, and other applicable toolsKnowledge of appropriate computer based programs.A thorough knowledge and understanding of the use and application of statistical quality assurance methods.Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.Experience with PPAP, Control Plans, FMEA’s, and problem solving techniques.Strong verbal and written communication skills.Design, mechanical integrity, process control, project management, assembly, and machining experience preferred.Education & ExperienceBS Engineering with 7+ years of experience in a quality related field. Masters of Science in Engineering a plusOrA minimum of 15+ years of progressive quality systems and process quality experience a manufacturing environment with a focus on Supplier Quality Development.
