Overview:A recognized practitioner and licensed Architect who possesses strong design and technical abilities and manages implementation documentation. Manages the firm's resources (people, processes and tools) and assignments with proficiency, fluency and aptitude. Teaches and mentors staff and effectively embodies and expresses the firm's values and mission.The successful candidate will be responsible for the technical realization of complex exterior systems, ensuring that every project exceeds industry standards for energy efficiency, durability, and occupant health. Beyond traditional sustainability, this role will champion regenerative design principles, moving our portfolio toward net-positive impacts on the environment and local ecosystems.This role helps to ensure that the most beautiful buildings are those that perform flawlessly. Possesses a meticulous eye for detail, a deep curiosity about material science, and a proven track record of delivering projects that push the boundaries of carbon neutrality and regenerative architecture. Comfortable discussing U-values and thermal bridging along with formal aesthetics and urban context.Responsibilities:Leads the integration of advanced building science into the design process, including thermal modeling, hygrothermal analysis, daylighting simulations, and embodied carbon assessments.Drives the implementation of regenerative design frameworks (e.g., Living Building Challenge, Passive House, Well Building Standard) as it pertains to building envelope design and detailing.Manages the execution of construction documents and specifications related to the building skin, ensuring seamless transitions from conceptual design to high-performance execution.Leads consultants and technical team efforts to facilitate effective execution of project design and the delivery of implementation documentsWorks with PIC/PM in developing and managing the production schedule, including effectively defining and meeting deadlinesPrepares, reviews and coordinates implementation documents prior to issue, including verifying implementation documents conform to QA/QC and HKS standards, best practice and quality expectationsManages the technical resolution and coordination for a defined portion of a projectMay lead development of code analysis and confirms code and zoning requirements for assigned segment of project are metCoordinates design group interaction both internally and externally, including leading consultant team work sessionsMaintains open communication with client and provides guidance through projectsCoordinates with project managers, clients, public agencies, consultants and contractors to incorporate engineering systems, to respond to requests for information, clarifications and modifications and to obtain approvals and adjust scope of servicesPrepares client presentations and may present design concepts and drawingsExercises skills of persuasion and negotiation on critical issuesPerforms product research; assists project designers with materials and systems evaluationOversees appropriate application of products and materials available on the market and best practicesMaintains awareness of risk management for potential project issues and involves PIC/PM if neededLeads team meetings to discuss project issues, technical issues and coordination with other disciplinesAttends on-site visits, field reviews and project meetings and documents as appropriateResponsible for preparing and/or reviewing meeting minutes for consultant coordination meetingsQualifications:Education and Experience Accredited professional degree in Architecture required8+ years of experience preferredLicenses and Certifications Architectural registration requiredSustainable design accreditation preferredKnowledge, Skills and AbilitiesAdvanced - expert-level experience, knowledge or skillsIntermediate - experience, knowledge or skills required to produce high-quality solutions or workBasic - familiar with primary concepts or capabilities and can perform elementary functions Advanced skills in Revit and Navisworks requiredBasic proficiency in Dynamo, Rhino, and Grasshopper required; intermediate preferredBasic ability to collaborate and develop projects with others who are using Dynamo, Rhino, and Grasshopper requiredBasic experience with Photoshop, Illustrator, Sketchup and InDesign software preferredBasic skills in MS Office Suite preferredIntermediate knowledge of sustainability and integrated design guidelines requiredAdvanced knowledge of architectural building systems, accessibility guidelines and QA/QC process requiredAdvanced knowledge of building codes and ability to research and incorporate into implementation documents requiredIntermediate ability to build and maintain client relationships requiredIntermediate presentation skills preferredIntermediate organizational skills for multiple concurrent projects requiredBasic ability to communicate in a clear, concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing preferredIntermediate ability to problem solve and apply innovative solutions requiredIntermediate ability to collaborate collaboration in a team environment requiredAdvanced ability to effectively meet deadlines at expected quality requiredTravel may be requiredYou believes that the most beautiful buildings are those that perform flawlessly.
