Seasonal Election Clerk
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB: Administrative support during each election cycle and perform a variety of specialized departmental clerical duties and responsibilities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High school diploma or equivalent. 1 year experience in office environment preferred.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
1. Process voter registration, applications and voter changes in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
2. Process absentee and mail-in ballot applications in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
3. Record Polling Place votes in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
4. File voter registration records, absentee and mail in ballot applications, and returned absentee and mail in ballots by department regulations.
5. Participate in absentee and mail-in ballot canvassing in accordance with Federal, State, and local laws and regulations.
6. Inventory, organize and prepare Election materials for officials and county rovers.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Must be able to speak and understand English language and follow oral and written instructions.
2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Must possess ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with public, co-workers and others.
4. Must be able to file numerically and alphabetically.
5. Must possess general knowledge of office practices and procedures.
6. Must be able to maintain confidentiality concerning information and records.
7. Must possess technical knowledge in operating personal computers and other office equipment.
8. Must possess knowledge and ability to practice current and accurate usage of grammar and spelling.
9. Must possess ability to perform simple math calculations and banking duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Must work all hours as scheduled by Director between March– May and September– November each year.
2. May be required to work weekends.
3. Works indoors in an adequate office space, lighting, ventilation, and temperature.
4. Works with average indoor exposure to noise and stress but is subject to frequent disruptions.
5. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of reaching, standing and walking and occasional periods of bending, twisting, and stooping as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
3. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands for a computer, to simple dexterity of feet/legs/torso as necessary to carry out job duties.
4. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a weights of twenty to thirty pounds.
5. Must be able to move frequently throughout the workday as needed to carry out essential job duties.
6. Must be able to pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
