Principal Engineer - Thermal Sciences (MS/PhD)

Overview In this Principal Engineer role, you will lead and grow the Thermal Sciences Practice by applying rigorous engineering and scientific methods to failure analysis, risk mitigation, and product development. You’ll cultivate client relationships, pursue new business, and guide multidisciplinary teams through advanced technical analyses. The work spans investigations, testing, modeling, and expert witness engagements to deliver impactful, safety-focused solutions. ResponsibilitiesLead projects for failure analysis, root cause investigations, product development and expert witness engagementsIdentify and pursue business development opportunitiesManage multidisciplinary teams and collaborate with experts in other disciplinesProject management and client relationship buildingPerform engineering calculations, analyses, and laboratory experiments or modelingPlan and execute testing programsPrepare written reports, proposals, and presentationsTravel domestically and internationally as requiredCommunicate technical conclusions to engineers, lawyers, business stakeholders, and industry professionals Key requirementsPh.D. or Master’s Degree in a related engineering field with solid understanding of combustion, heat transfer and fluid mechanics10+ years of relevant technical consulting experience in fires/explosions, product safety, process safety and risk assessment, or related areasExperience testifying as an expert witnessProfessional Engineer (P.E.)
