S. residentFull Time PositionOn-site in College Park, Maryland – Remote Work May Be AvailableTask DescriptionThe Senior Application Containerization Expert will work closely with application developers, infrastructure engineers, DevOps teams, architects, and cybersecurity professionals to transform traditional applications into scalable, secure, and highly available containerized solutions.This position requires a strong understanding of Docker/Podman, Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift, Linux, CI/CD, automation, and cloud technologies, along with the ability to troubleshoot complex enterprise environments.Key ResponsibilitiesLead the assessment and containerization of existing applications, including legacy and monolithic applications. Design and implement containerization strategies using Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, and/or Red Hat OpenShift. Develop and maintain container images, Dockerfiles/Containerfiles, and associated configuration. Analyze applications and dependencies to determine the appropriate approach for containerization and modernization. Deploy, configure, and manage containerized applications within Kubernetes and OpenShift environments. Develop Kubernetes/OpenShift manifests, Helm charts, Operators, and other deployment configurations as appropriate. Configure application networking, storage, security, resource allocation, scaling, and high availability. Develop and enhance CI/CD pipelines supporting automated application builds, testing, container image creation, security scanning, and deployment. Integrate containerized applications with enterprise infrastructure, databases, APIs, messaging systems, storage, and other services. Implement container security best practices, including image scanning, vulnerability remediation, secrets management, access controls, and least-privilege configurations. Troubleshoot complex issues involving containers, Kubernetes/OpenShift, networking, storage, application dependencies, and system performance. Identify and resolve performance, scalability, reliability, and resource-utilization issues. Automate repetitive deployment and infrastructure tasks using scripting and Infrastructure as Code tools. Establish containerization standards, best practices, documentation, and reusable patterns. Provide technical leadership and mentoring to application, DevOps, and infrastructure engineering teams. Participate in architecture and design reviews and provide recommendations for application modernization. Develop technical documentation, implementation plans, procedures, and operational runbooks. Support production deployments and provide advanced technical assistance for complex incidents. Collaborate with cybersecurity teams to ensure containerized applications meet applicable security and compliance requirements. Required Qualifications8+ years of professional IT/software engineering experience, with significant experience in application deployment, modernization, or infrastructure engineering. 5+ years of hands-on experience with container technologies, including Docker, Podman, Kubernetes, or OpenShift. Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes and/or Red Hat OpenShift. Strong Linux administration and troubleshooting skills. Experience developing and managing container images using Dockerfiles or Containerfiles. Experience with Kubernetes/OpenShift objects including Pods, Deployments, Services, ConfigMaps, Secrets, Ingress/Routes, Persistent Volumes, and Namespaces. Experience with CI/CD pipelines and automated application deployment. Strong scripting and automation skills.Experience with Git and source-code management platforms. Strong understanding of application dependencies, configuration management, logging, and monitoring. Preferred QualificationsRed Hat Certified Specialist in OpenShift Administration or equivalent experience. Kubernetes certification such as CKA or CKAD. Experience with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, or IBM Cloud. Experience with Terraform, Ansible, Helm, Argo CD, Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions. Experience with container security and vulnerability management. Experience migrating legacy applications to modern container platforms. Experience with microservices architecture and application modernization.
