This role involves comparing shipment information with purchase orders, invoices, or other documents, preparing shipments, and maintaining proper records while supporting the warehouse’s operational goals and workplace safety standards.Core ResponsibilitiesTo perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.Prepare shipments for postal or commercial conveyance; determine most economical and efficient shipping method, select appropriate shipping container, pack items to ensure safe deliveryPrepare bills of lading; check items to be shipped against work orders to confirm quantities, destination, and routingReceive and unload incoming materials; compare packing slips with purchase orders to verify shipment accuracy; may process return shipmentsSort, count, package, label, insure, unpack, and/or log inventory that is shipped or receivedInspect shipments for damages or defects; record and notify supervisor or purchasingDeliver items to requisitioning departments and obtain authorized signaturesMay trace lost shipments and customer claims, initiate proof-of-delivery documentsMay maintain department database, prepare routine reports, and file shipping/receiving recordsOperate dolly, pallet jack, and/or forklift; may operate shrink-wrap machine or company vehicle; participate in routine equipment maintenanceFollow departmental policies, procedures, continuous improvement objectives, and safety/environmental standardsPromote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practicesPerform miscellaneous job-related duties as assignedQualificationsHigh school diploma/GED or equivalent work experienceExperience with Microsoft applications2–3 years prior experience in an industrial warehouse environmentKnowledge of light equipment operation and/or maintenanceKnowledge of postal or commercial shipping methods and proceduresKnowledge of related accreditation and certification requirementsAbility to receive, stock, and deliver goods/materials/supplies/equipmentAbility to read, sort, check, count, and verify numbers; prepare routine administrative paperwork and maintain recordsAbility to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures; detect and report problemsDay In The LifeIn this role, the working environment is primarily in the warehouse and shipping area. The physical demands include considerable walking, bending, twisting, lifting and carrying (up to 70 pounds), pushing and pulling including overhead. Expect regular exposure to shop noise and fumes, all within OSHA standards. Starting pay is dependent on multiple factors, such as skills, experience, and work location.
