The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Studies at the University of Central Oklahoma invites applications for a non-tenure track visiting assistant professor in Spanish and Language Education to begin August 2026.Position OverviewTeaches, advises and mentors students, evaluates student performance, and maintains department and student records in accordance with university policies. Adheres to the educational philosophy of the university. Works in a collaborative manner with colleagues and professional peers. Participates in university meetings that relate specifically to faculty. Serves on department, college, and university committees as requested. Prepares departmental reports as requested. Engages in teaching, service, and scholarly and/or creative activities as defined by the tenure and promotion policy in the UCO Employee and Faculty Handbook. Teaching, research, departmental/school and university service is expected. This position is a full-time, visiting, non-tenure-track position.Teaching responsibilities include Spanish language courses, Spanish and Latin American culture and civilization classes, and Methods of Teaching Foreign Languages.Additional responsibilities include supervising teacher education candidates during student teaching, advising students on the Oral Proficiency Interview, supporting language club activities and events, participating in OFLTA (Oklahomans for World Language Teaching Association), serving on department, college, and university committees as requested, preparing departmental and accreditation reports as requested.College/Department OverviewThe Department of Modern Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies promotes the study and teaching of second languages and the study of the literatures and cultures produced by the peoples of those languages. In addition to major programs in French, German, and Spanish, the department offers courses in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Latin, and Biblical Greek.The department supports the training of future language teachers and fosters the learning of Spanish in various settings (common education, non-traditional learning, and higher education). Assessment of student progress and academic programs are part of our culture. Academic programs are evaluated and developed after shared work in strategic planning and coordination of multiple section courses. The department also sponsors community events and clubs. There are opportunities for leading study tours and mentoring study abroad by undergraduates.The Department of Modern Languages, Literatures, and Cultural Studies is committed to recruiting and maintaining a diverse faculty and to creating a welcoming environment for all.For further information see our website at http://www.uco.edu/la.Duties And ResponsibilitiesThe successful candidate will be expected to teach a 4:3 load that includes elementary-level language courses in addition to upper-level courses in language, literature, and cultural studies that complement instructor expertise and departmental need.
