More information is available at subcritical.com.About the RoleWe are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Machinist to join our growing team in a full-time, on-site role located in Austin, TX. In this role you will be responsible for operating a variety of manual and CNC machinery to produce high-precision machined components that support the development and construction of our first-of-its-kind energy amplifier.This role works closely with our engineering and manufacturing teams to fabricate parts to tight tolerances, contribute to facility build-out, and help establish the machining capabilities needed for a novel nuclear power system. This role is ideal for an experienced machinist who takes pride in precision work and is excited to contribute to a groundbreaking technology.Key ResponsibilitiesPrecision Machining & FabricationSet up, operate, and maintain a variety of manual and CNC machines including lathes, mills, grinders, hydraulic presses, and drill presses.Produce high-quality machined parts to customer and engineering specifications, holding tight tolerances required for nuclear and accelerator components.Contribute to facility build-out through hands-on fabrication and installation activities.Support the development of machining processes and procedures as we scale our manufacturing capabilities.Blueprint Interpretation & DocumentationRead and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders to determine appropriate machining processes and procedures.Document work performed and maintain detailed, accurate production records.Collaborate with engineers to clarify specifications and provide feedback on manufacturability.Quality & Equipment MaintenanceMonitor machine operations and make real-time adjustments to ensure consistent quality and productivity.Perform routine preventive maintenance and troubleshoot issues with machinery to minimize downtime.Uphold rigorous quality standards appropriate for safety-critical components.Who You Are5+ years of experience as a Machinist or in a similar precision manufacturing role.Proficient in operating a variety of manual and CNC machines.Experienced with Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM).Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, and work orders.Strong math and measurement skills with exceptional attention to detail.Proven problem-solving skills and ability to work both independently and as part of a team.Unwavering commitment to safe operations for yourself and your team members.Comfortable working in a fast-paced startup environment with high ownership and evolving processes.Experience in precision manufacturing for nuclear, aerospace, or defense applications is a plus but not required.Important NotesThis role is fully in person in Austin, Texas.
