Material Handler – Press Department Pay Range: $17.00 – $25.00 per hour Signing Bonus: After 90 days of successful employment Bilingual Premium: Additional $1.00/hr for qualified candidates About Us Powder Metallurgy Co. is a third-generation manufacturing company specializing in press-and-sinter powder metal components. Position Overview We are seeking a Material Handler to support and oversee material movement for the Press Department. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring a detail-oriented and safety-conscious professional who can train others, coordinate with production teams, and ensure uninterrupted material flow. The ideal candidate will bring strong communication skills, the ability to work in challenging conditions, and a commitment to quality and efficiency. Key Responsibilities Leadership & Training: Serve as the primary point of contact for material flow in the Press Department. Train and mentor other material handlers to follow company standards and procedures. Material Staging & Loading: Prepare, stage, and transport powdered metal blends to designated presses according to production schedules. Press Support: Ensure operators have the correct materials, assist with material changes, and help minimize downtime. Safe Handling of Bulk Materials: Safely move and position 500-lb drums of powdered material with the aid of forklifts and lifting equipment. Documentation & Labeling: Accurately complete job travelers, powder usage logs, and inventory records. Inventory Management: Monitor material levels, report shortages, and assist in cycle counts and stock rotations. Equipment Handling: Safely operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material handling equipment. Quality Assurance: Follow proper handling procedures to prevent contamination and maintain material integrity. Safety & Housekeeping: Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment, and report any issues promptly. Required Qualifications Leadership & Training Skills: Demonstrated ability to lead and train other material handlers or production staff. Forklift Certification (or willingness to obtain within 30 days of hire) Experience in Manufacturing or Warehousing (minimum 3–4 years preferred) Familiarity with inventory management systems (ERP/MRP experience is a plus) Ability to Read Work Orders & Follow Instructions with strong attention to detail Basic Math & Measurement Skills for accurate material handling Physical Ability: Capable of safely moving 500-lb drums of material using lifting equipment, and lifting up to 50 lbs manually as needed. Strong Communication & Teamwork Skills Punctuality & Reliability – must demonstrate consistent attendance and ability to progress quickly during training Work Environment & Physical Demands Challenging Conditions: This role involves working in an environment hotter than a typical warehouse in the summer due to large industrial machines generating heat, and cold during the winter. Dusty/Dirty Environment: The job can be dirty and involves working around powdered metal materials. Physical Work: Requires standing, walking, bending, and handling heavy materials throughout the shift.
