How You Can Help Us Make a Difference Building Controls Specialist - Power the Systems That Power Our Community We're seeking a skilled FacilitiesBuilding Controls Specialist to support the installation, integration, maintenance, and repair of building automation and security systems across County facilities. This role works with access control, mechanical locks, cameras, fire safety devices, and other advanced control systems, ensuring they operate efficiently, securely, and in compliance with applicable codes and standards. You'll coordinate system design, programming, installation, commissioning, and repairs while troubleshooting complex controls and collaborating with contractors, project managers, and IT. Responsibilities include updating software and network configurations, calibrating devices, integrating new technologies with existing infrastructure, maintaining security system registrations, and managing system documentation and budgets. This position may require emergency or after-hours response and calls for strong technical expertise, problem-solving skills, and exceptional customer service. Education & Credentials That Power This Role Education and Experience An equivalent combination of relevant training, education and experience: High school diploma or equivalent. Five (5) years of experience in installing, programming, maintaining, troubleshooting mechanical locks and related hardware, and testing building automation systems. Preferred: Vocational training in electrical or telecommunication systems Vocational training in mechanical lock maintenance Work experience in building management software systems and video management systems Three (3) years of experience working in operation, maintenance, and repair of video management and access control systems, and burglar alarms. Licenses and/or Certificates: Must maintain a valid driver's license. Preferred: Certified (EF) or Registered (EY) Alarm System Contractor. Certified (ES) or Registered (ET) Electrical Specialty Contractor as a low voltage system specialist (class code 069) or maintenance of electrical fixtures (class code 065). Depending on position assignment… if assigned to work within the Charlotte County Sheriff's Office/Justice Center/Jail additional background checks will be required: Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS). FALCON Integrated Criminal History System. Your Purpose & Day-To-Day Journey In this role, your purpose is to keep our building security and automation systems smart, secure, and running seamlessly. Each day, you'll apply your knowledge of automated building security systems, mechanical locks, building management software, and integrated control platforms to ensure compatibility, connectivity, and performance across facilities. You'll rely on your understanding of electronic, electrical, mechanical, RFID, and digital control systems-along with construction principles-to troubleshoot issues, analyze system performance, and implement effective solutions. Working comfortably with Microsoft Office and specialized software, you'll maintain accurate records, prepare reports, and manage documentation while staying aligned with departmental policies and modern office practices. You'll interpret control drawings, schematics, and construction plans, prioritize multiple projects, and work independently to meet deadlines. Along the way, you'll communicate complex technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, build strong working relationships, and use sound judgment, analytical thinking, and resourcefulness to continuously improve system efficiency and reliability.
