Harris-Stowe's diverse faculty and staff provide a wide range of academic programs to one of the most culturally diverse student bodies in the St. Louis region.Job SummaryThe Department of Public Safety is in search of full-time 1st shift Campus Public Safety Officers from 6:00 A.M. - 3:00 P.M.DutiesEnforce campus regulations, and federal, state, and city statutesProtect the University's property and personsControlling campus trafficProvide security escort serviceConduct emergency evacuation of the campus, if necessaryQualificationsRead, understand, and speak English; constantly use speech and hearing (correctable to normal level required) in communicating with public/co-workers, giving and receiving instructions, using phonesMust be able to frequently prepare written reports and logs in neat, legible handwriting; may require computer skillsExperience with traffic control preferredAbility to work flexible hoursFollow detailed oral and written instructionsExcellent human relations skillsAbility to maintain satisfactory attendance and punctuality standards;Neat and professional appearanceProvide quality customer serviceHandle both common and crises at the client site, calmly and efficientlyMay be required to use protective devices such as pepper spray or batonCandidates must possess a High School Diploma or GED, be at least 21 years of age, possess a valid driver's license, and currently must be licensed to carry a firearm through the Watchman's Division, St. Louis County Private Security Section. An earned Associate's Degree or equivalent earned credit hours from an accredited institution is preferred.Physical RequirementsMay be subjected to adverse working conditions or physical conditions including possible injury in the apprehension of violators of codesOccasionally lift at least 50 poundsMay be required to use protective devices such as steel-toed shoes, handguns, tear gas, and batons.May be required to work irregular hoursStand or walk constantly (for up to an entire shift) on various surfaces (tile, concrete, carpet)Climb stairs, ramps, or ladders occasionally during the shiftOccasionally bend/twist at waist/knees/neck to perform various dutiesRun as neededConstant use of arms, hands, and fingers while using phone, notepad, writing reports, and other administrative tasksConstant use of eyes (correctable vision to normal level required) to observe, read, interact with public and co-workers, and view security monitors; includes hand/eye coordinationWork in various environments including adverse outdoor conditions such as cold, rain, or heat;Constant mental alertness and attention to detail are required while setting priorities and following up on assignmentsMust be able to stay alert and awake at all times"Please No Phone Calls"Due to the large number of applications submitted and the high volume of applicant inquiries we receive regarding the status of applications, we are unable to accept phone calls or walk-in inquiries regarding applicant status.
