We analyze, strategize, organize, and prioritize. We bridge the communication channel between the client and our project team. We chart the course and navigate the product roadmap sprint by sprint. Many of us wear multiple hats and do whatever's needed to deliver successful projects.What you'll be doingDesign, develop, and maintain scalable fullstack applications using React/NextJS (TypeScript) on the frontend and Python (Django/FastAPI) or Node.js (Express/NestJS) on the backend.Collaborate with Product Managers, Designers, and Engineers to translate business requirements into high-quality technical solutions.Build reusable, maintainable, and performant UI components and backend servicesDevelop and integrate RESTful and/or GraphQL APIs, ensuring reliability and scalabilityContribute to architecture discussions and help define best practices across frontend and backend systems.Ensure code quality through code reviews, unit/integration testing, and adherence to engineering standards.Optimize application performance, scalability, and security across the stack.Participate in agile ceremonies including sprint planning, standups, and retrospectives.Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve production issues in collaboration with DevOps and QA teams.Mentor junior engineers and contribute to a culture of continuous improvement and learning.What you'll need to be successful (Requirements)Minimum of 4+ years of hands-on development experience in fullstack developmentStrong proficiency in React/NextJS (TypeScript), including state management (e.g., Redux, Context API) and modern frontend practicesSolid experience with backend development using Python (Django, FastAPI) or Node.js (Express, NestJS)Experience designing, implementing and consuming RESTful APIs and/or GraphQL API servicesStrong understanding of database design and experience with relational databases (e.g., PostgreSQL, MySQL)Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS, GCP, or AzureExperience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines through github actionsStrong problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, client-facing environmentExcellent communication skills and ability to collaborate across cross-functional teamsExperience working in agile or scrum-based environmentsFamiliarity with cloud-based logging, monitoring, and security toolsBonus Points for these (Preferred Experience)Experience with headless CMS platforms (e.g., Contentful, Contentstack, Sanity)Familiarity with eCommerce platforms (e.g., Shopify, BigCommerce, Saleor)Experience with microservices architecture and containerization (Docker, Kubernetes)Knowledge of DevOps practices, infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, CDK), and monitoring tools (Prometheus, Grafana)Experience working on healthcare, fintech, or regulated industry projectsExperience with Data analytics platforms like GCP BigQuery, snowflakeNeed another reason to hit the "apply" button?Codal is a global agency with over 200 employees, and offices in the US, Canada, the UK, and IndiaWe regularly host happy hours, dinners, excursions, and other company events to unwind after a hard day at workOffice snacks and drinks + a fancy Bevi water machine with flavored waterWe offer Medical, Life, Dental/Vision, and many more insurance typesEmployer 401k match - 4%A recreational group that regularly competes in city leagues for softball and volleyballAn office in the heart of downtown Chicago with a gym, food court, Walgreens, rooftop bar, outdoor sports court, and other amenitiesWorking hybrid for in-person collaboration and sprint-planning days**Please note, this is a hybrid role in Chicago.
