This role provides district-wide operational coverage and requires the ability to work varying schedules, shifts, locations, and assignments, sometimes with limited notice, to meet changing district needs. Under the direction of the District-Wide Lead Custodian, this position is responsible for substituting and providing immediate support across multiple operational areas, including custodial services, food service operations, Print Center support, district mail and courier delivery, and warehousing activities. While this position will primarily support custodial operations, the employee must be willing and able to transition between duties and departments at any time, including leaving a current assignment to address higher-priority operational needs. This position performs a wide range of cleaning, maintenance, logistical, and support tasks to ensure safe, clean, secure, and efficient school and district operations. The Floater - Operations Support position plays a critical role in ensuring that essential district services remain fully operational during employee absences, vacancies, special projects, or unplanned operational demands. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Serve as a positive, collaborative, and adaptable member of the Custodial and Operations teams in support of Colville School District's cleaning, maintenance, and operational goals. Provide custodial services as assigned, including daily cleaning and maintenance of classrooms, restrooms, drinking fountains, hallways, entrances, windows, public gathering areas, and other spaces as needed. Operate power equipment and hand tools such as brooms, mops, buffers, polishers, squeegees, and vacuums to clean and maintain floors, walls, carpets, furniture, and fixtures. Assist with set-up, clean-up, and breakdown of lunchrooms, athletic events, community events, and other district functions. Provide coverage and assistance in food service areas as assigned, including working in food preparation, service, and food handling areas in accordance with health, safety, and sanitation standards. Assist with Print Center operations and the delivery of district mail and materials. Perform warehousing and logistical support duties as assigned, which may include receiving, storing, organizing, relocating, loading, and delivering materials, furniture, equipment, and supplies between schools and district facilities. Safely move items between locations using appropriate equipment and techniques, following district safety procedures. Maintain building security and follow all district safety and emergency protocols at all times. Attend custodial meetings and participate on building safety committees when assigned. Perform minor and routine maintenance tasks requiring basic knowledge of mechanics, plumbing, carpentry, electrical practices, and grounds or turf maintenance. Perform preventative and minor maintenance tasks, which may include replacing light bulbs, painting, repairing desks and chairs, and similar duties. Maintain custodial closets, offices, warehouses, and storage areas in a clean, organized, and well-stocked condition. Routinely inspect buildings, grounds, equipment, and storage areas to ensure safety and proper maintenance; report deficiencies to the Principal, Head Custodian, Facilities Director, or designee. May occasionally perform snow removal and assist with weather-related response needs. Be available to work special events (e.g., athletic events), which may require schedule changes, evening or weekend hours, overtime, and flexible scheduling by mutual agreement with the supervisor. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Principal, supervisor, or designee in support of district operations. Required Qualifications Current driver's license Food Worker Card (Food Handler Permit) Available and willing to work various shifts High school diploma, general education degree (GED), or one to three months related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Must have skills, knowledge, and/or abilities pertaining to principles, procedures, and methods used in general building custodial/cleaning and minor maintenance activities, along with knowledge of cleaning tools, implements, chemicals, and practices. Demonstrated ability to promote positive and productive working relationships with custodial workers, building staff, students, and the public Demonstrated ownership, organizational abilities, and the ability to work well independently Ability to deal with difficult or stressful people and situations in a positive manner Must possess general knowledge of computers, carpentry, painting, and landscaping Ability to perform basic reading, writing, and arithmetic, and follow written and oral communications Must be in good physical health and capable of standing and walking without restrictions, including lifting and/or moving up to 100 pounds Must have a pleasant, cooperative personality to communicate and work effectively with students, staff, and the community Must be willing to acquire specialized training to gain a thorough understanding of installed systems A favorable report from a state and national fingerprinting background check is mandatory.
