Job SummaryThe Pharmacy Technician Trainee supports hospital pharmacy operations in a supervised, hands-on learning environment. This role assists with medication preparation, distribution, inventory management, and pharmacy system processes while completing required training and developing technical skills to support safe patient care.Minimum QualificationsEducation: High school diploma/GED requiredMaryland resident Individuals eligible for the Maryland Service Year Program (generally ages 18–24)Experience: None required Licensure/Certification:Must work under supervision of a licensed pharmacist or pharmacy technicianExpected to progress toward pharmacy technician responsibilities per organizational guidelines Skills & Abilities:Basic computer and data entry skillsAbility to follow detailed instructions and safety protocolsStrong attention to detail and accuracyGood communication and teamwork skillsAbility to learn technical pharmacy processes and systems What You’ll DoComplete required training and coursework while progressing through the trainee programAssist with preparing medications for patient care unitsDeliver medications to patient care areas and automated dispensing cabinetsSupport inventory management, including stocking and monitoring medication suppliesAssist with repackaging medications and maintaining pharmacy stock (e.g., Pyxis systems)Help maintain clean and organized pharmacy workspacesFollow all safety, regulatory, and patient care protocolsWhat The Job Is Really LikeThis is a structured training role with clear expectations for learning and developmentYou’ll spend time on both technical tasks and operational support within the pharmacyAccuracy is critical—errors can directly affect patient safetyThe work can be repetitive but requires strong attention to detailYou’ll work closely with pharmacists and technicians and follow direction throughout the shiftThe environment is more behind-the-scenes compared to retail pharmacy rolesWork Environment & DemandsHospital pharmacy setting with limited direct patient interactionFrequent standing, walking, and movement throughout the pharmacy and units (see physical demands on page 3) Requires sustained concentration and attention to detailExposure to medications and controlled environmentsTeam-based, process-driven environmentWhat Success Looks LikeMedications are prepared and delivered accurately and safelyTraining milestones are completed successfullyInventory and stock are maintained correctlyYou follow all safety and regulatory standards consistentlyYou demonstrate growth in technical knowledge and reliabilityCaring for Our TeamWe offer a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees' well-being and professional growth.
