and creates lasting value for its colleagues, customers, and other stakeholders.Learn more about the company's Customized Polymer, Sustainable Fiber, Durable Metal, and Integrated Solutions at www.greif.com and follow Greif on Instagram and LinkedIn.Our VisionTo Be the Advantage That Helps Our Customers Win.Our PurposeCreating packaging solutions for life’s essentials.Job Requisition #:035322 Maintenance Millwright (Open)Job DescriptionCompliance & Safety (Legal Requirements)Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act (85 of 1993) and its regulations.Adhere to lock-out, tag-out, try out (LOTOTO), permit-to-work, confined space, and working-at-heights and live electrical work procedures.Identify and report unsafe conditions, near misses, and incidents in line with company and statutory requirements.Participate in risk assessments, toolbox talks, and safety audits as required by South African safety legislation.Always ensure that the correct Personal Protective Equipment is work as per risk assessments and job standards.Perform statutory inspections on all prescribed and indicated equipment and building structures as indicated by the Maintenance Superintendent.Immediately inform the maintenance management team if any equipment in the plant is seen to be defective.Compliance with company disciplinary, safety, and quality proceduresMechanical & Electrical MaintenancePerform planned, preventative, and breakdown maintenance on mechanical and electromechanical equipment, including gearboxes, conveyors, pumps, motors, valves, bearings, hydraulic and pneumatic systems.Diagnose faults and carry out repairs on mechanical and basic electrical systems in accordance with engineering standards and OEM specifications.Install, align, and commission machinery and equipment.Perform vibration checks, alignment, and condition monitoring tasks where required.Perform Break-Down Analysis on all Breakdowns exceeding 15 min.Maintain hand tools and toolbox to ensure the equipment is in good working condition.Planned Maintenance & Continuous ImprovementExecute tasks according to the Computerised Maintenance Management System (CMMS) or maintenance schedules.Record all maintenance work, inspections, and parts usage accurately.Assist with root cause analysis of recurring breakdowns and implement corrective actions Support continuous improvement initiatives to enhance equipment reliability and efficiency.Teamwork & CommunicationWork collaboratively with production, engineering, and other maintenance staff to minimise downtime.Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices, assistants, or operators where applicable.Communicate clearly during shift handovers and maintenance planning meetings.EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCERecognised Millwright Trade Test Certificate (Red Seal), as per South African trade certification standards.Minimum 1–5 years’ post-trade experience in a manufacturing, processing, or industrial environment.MatricNQF Level 5 with focus on Electrical.Minimum 2 years’ experience in problem solving of hydraulic and pneumatic systems faults.Minimum 3 years’ experience mechanical and electrical fault finding.TRAININGHydraulics - basic level required.Pneumatics - basic level requiredElectronics – basis level requiredBlow Molding – basic level requiredSKILLSAbility to work under pressure and respond to breakdowns effectively.Breakdown analysis using problem solving techniques.High level of reliability, discipline, and attention to detail.Good written and oral communication.Problem solving on temperature control circuitsAC and DC motor connections and testing.Start delta wiringHydraulic and pneumatic cylinder repairs.Engineering (drilling, tapping, bending, pressing, cutting, arc welding)Read, analyse and interpret hydraulic schematics to solve breakdownsRead, analyse and interpret pneumatic schematics to solve breakdownsRead, analyse and interpret electric schematics to solve breakdownsSetup of AC drives.Basic arc welding skillsConveyor maintenanceRecognise electrical componentsTesting of input and output signals on PLC controlsDismantling, assembling and installing machinery.Control circuit testing on pressure and linear transducers.Control circuit testing of proportional valves.Panel wiring from electrical drawings.BEHAVIOURAL COMPETENCYWillingness to work shifts, standby, overtime, and callouts as operationally required.High level of reliability, discipline, and attention to detail.PHYSICAL & MEDICAL REQUIREMENTSMedically fit to perform manual and technical work in an industrial environment.Ability to work at heights, in confined spaces, and around moving machinery, as permitted by medical clearance.At Greif, we believe that our colleagues are the center of our success.
