Dermatopathologist

Job SummaryThe Dermatopathologist is responsible for the examination, interpretation, and diagnosis of dermatologic specimens, including nail unit samples, in a high-volume laboratory environment. This position requires specialized fellowship training and/or expertise in dermatopathology, with the ability to accurately diagnose inflammatory, infectious, and neoplastic diseases of the skin and nails. The physician will provide timely sign-out of pathology cases, collaborate with fellow dermatopathologists and client physicians, and maintain high standards of diagnostic quality and turnaround time.Position RequirementsMD or DO degree from an accredited medical school. Board certification in Anatomic Pathology by the American Board of Pathology. Relevant experience and/or fellowship training in Dermatopathology. Board certification or board eligibility in Dermatopathology preferred. Active and unrestricted medical license, or eligibility for licensure, in the applicable states. Demonstrated expertise in interpretation of skin and nail pathology specimens. Experience in a high-volume dermatopathology laboratory preferred. Strong diagnostic, organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.Tasks, Duties and ResponsibilitiesExamine and interpret dermatopathology specimens including skin biopsies, excisions, and nail unit specimens. Render accurate and timely diagnoses in a high-volume case environment while maintaining quality and consistency standards. Sign out pathology reports summarizing microscopic findings, diagnostic interpretations, and clinicopathologic correlations. Evaluate inflammatory, infectious, autoimmune, benign, premalignant, and malignant dermatologic conditions. Interpret special stains, immunohistochemistry, and molecular studies as applicable to dermatopathology. Correlate histopathologic findings with clinical history, photographs, and laboratory data. Participate in consensus review, quality assurance, proficiency testing, and peer review activities. Communicate significant or unexpected findings directly with referring physicians when appropriate. Collaborate effectively with laboratory personnel, histotechnologists, fellow pathologists, clinicians, and administrative staff. Support educational initiatives, conferences, and continuing medical education activities as needed. Involvement in training programs including teaching of podiatric medicine residents.Working ConditionsGeneral in office environment with private office space.
