Summer Internship Program GuidelinesProgram OverviewThe Summer Internship Program is designed to provide students with hands-on exposure to the construction industry, with a focus on underground utility work. Interns will gain practical experience, learn essential safety practices, and explore career opportunities in the skilled trades. Other internship opportunities such as Surveyors (AutoCAD), Equipment Mechanics, HR, and Finance will also be available.Program Duration Typical duration: 6–10 weeks during summer monthsWork schedule: 20–40 hours per weekEligibility RequirementsParticipants must: Be at least 17 years oldBe enrolled in high school, trade school, or collegeHave reliable transportation to job sites or designated meeting areasDemonstrate interest in construction, skilled trades, or businessSubmit any required school consent formsProgram ObjectivesInterns will: Gain exposure to underground utility construction (water, sewer, storm systems)Learn job site safety standards and OSHA basicsUnderstand construction workflows and team rolesDevelop basic hands-on skills under supervisionBuild professional work habits and communication skillsIntern Responsibilities Follow all company safety rules and wear required PPE at all timesArrive on time and maintain reliable attendanceFollow instructions from supervisors and crew leadsMaintain a positive attitude and willingness to learnRespect coworkers, equipment, and job sitesCompany Responsibilities Provide a safe and structured learning environmentAssign a supervisor or mentor for each internDeliver basic safety training and orientationProvide necessary PPEOffer meaningful, supervised work experiencesSafety Guidelines Safety is a condition of participationInterns must attend all safety orientations and toolbox talksNo operation of heavy equipment unless explicitly authorized and trainedImmediate reporting of hazards, injuries, or unsafe conditionsZero tolerance for unsafe behaviorWork ActivitiesInterns may assist with: Site preparation and cleanupMaterial handling and stagingObserving trenching, pipe installation, and utility layoutBasic tool use under supervisionTraffic control assistance (if trained)Supervision and Evaluation Interns will be supervised at all times by qualified personnelRegular check-ins will be conductedA final evaluation may be completed at the end of the programCompensation Interns will be paid hourly based on company standardsOvertime eligibility will follow applicable labor lawsAttendance and Conduct Interns must follow company attendance policiesUnexcused absences may result in removal from the programProfessional behavior is required at all timesDisciplinary ActionViolation of company policies may result in: Verbal warningRemoval from job siteTermination from the internship programProgram CompletionUpon successful completion, interns may: Receive a certificate of completionBe considered for future employment opportunitiesReceive a letter of recommendationIntern Meetings/Huddles Interns will be required to attend 3 group meetings: Welcome Orientation, Midway Check-in, and Program Completion MeetingPowered by JazzHR
