Your impact
Jacobs Cities & Places is seeking a talented Structural Engineer based out of Bellevue or Seattle, WA , to support the design and delivery of low‑rise, mid‑rise, and high‑rise building projects across the Pacific Northwest and Inland Northwest. We are looking for someone with a strong technical foundation, a clear interest in mass timber and hybrid structural systems, and a desire to contribute to high‑performing, design‑forward projects in Washington, Oregon, and Idaho.
This role is ideal for a motivated engineer who wants to grow in a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment and help shape buildings that are technically rigorous, resilient, and meaningful to the communities they serve.
Key Responsibilities
Contribute to structural design for a range of building types, including residential, mixed‑use, commercial, civic, education, and institutional projects
Support engineering analysis and documentation for low‑rise, mid‑rise, and high‑rise structures using concrete, steel, wood‑frame, mass timber, and hybrid systems
Participate in the development of framing concepts, gravity and lateral systems, and building structural strategies from early design through construction
Assist with structural calculations, modeling, and coordination of drawings and specifications
Work closely with architects, MEP engineers, contractors, and specialty consultants to deliver well‑integrated building solutions
Support project teams in addressing Pacific Northwest design considerations, including seismic design, lateral force‑resisting systems, wind, gravity loading, and constructability
Contribute to mass timber pursuits and projects by helping evaluate system selection, connection strategies, coordination requirements, prefabrication opportunities, and code considerations
Participate in internal and external meetings and communicate technical ideas clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences
Help advance quality, innovation, and sustainability in structural design practice
What Success Looks Like in This Role
Brings strong technical fundamentals and a willingness to learn quickly
Understands that structural engineering is not only about calculations, but about enabling architecture, performance, and buildability
Can speak the language of mass timber with confidence and curiosity
Contributes thoughtfully to resilient, code‑compliant, and elegant structural solutions
Works well with architects and integrated design teams, not in isolation
Brings energy, accountability, and a solutions‑oriented mindset to project delivery
Why Join Jacobs Cities & Places
Work on meaningful projects that shape communities across the region
Be part of an integrated team that values design, technical rigor, and innovation
Grow your expertise in mass timber, sustainable design, and high‑performance buildings
Collaborate with architects, planners, engineers, and project leaders across a broad range of market sectors
Build your career in a practice that values both design ambition and delivery excellence
