Robert Half Technology is recruiting for a high-impact DevOps Architect opportunity with a stable, established San Diego-based technology organization undergoing a major modernization push. This is a foundational role and the company’s first internal DevOps hire, giving the right candidate the chance to define the DevOps function, build the environment the right way, and create long-term standards across cloud, automation, security, and delivery.This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on Azure DevOps leader who has built cloud and DevOps environments from the ground up and wants ownership, visibility, and a future pathway toward leadership as the function matures.ResponsibilitiesThe DevOps Architect will own the design, buildout, governance, and long-term evolution of the Azure DevOps ecosystem across multiple product and technology teams. Key responsibilities include:Architect, design, and build scalable Azure DevOps and cloud platform solutions.Define and implement CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code, automation frameworks, monitoring, and release management practices.Establish Azure architecture standards, reference architectures, design patterns, and reusable DevOps frameworks.Lead DevSecOps strategy by embedding security, compliance, identity, and governance controls into pipelines and infrastructure from the beginning.Partner closely with engineering, product, security, infrastructure, and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical roadmaps.Review infrastructure designs, pipeline configurations, and automation strategies to ensure scalability, reliability, and security.Create and maintain architecture diagrams, runbooks, operational handoff documentation, and configuration baselines.Provide hands-on technical direction while also communicating risks, trade-offs, and architectural decisions to technical and executive stakeholders.Help mature the organization’s internal DevOps, Azure, cloud, automation, and governance practices.Mentor technical team members and help establish best practices as the DevOps function grows.Qualifications5+ years of experience in cloud engineering, DevOps, infrastructure architecture, or related roles.3+ years of experience designing and implementing enterprise CI/CD and Infrastructure as Code solutions.Strong Azure-first background; this role is not ideal for someone who is primarily AWS-focused.Hands-on experience with Azure DevOps Services, GitHub, Azure Repos, Azure Pipelines, Boards, Artifacts, and related Microsoft-native tools.Strong understanding of Infrastructure as Code, ideally Terraform, including module design, state management, and environment strategy.Experience building DevOps or cloud environments from scratch is highly preferred.Strong DevSecOps, governance, identity, security, and compliance experience.Advanced scripting/automation experience with PowerShell, Bash, Python, or similar tools.Ability to work cross-functionally with engineering teams, infrastructure teams, security leadership, and business stakeholders.Background coming from software development, software engineering, or development-adjacent DevOps experience is strongly preferred.Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent experience preferred.Microsoft Azure Architect Expert certification or equivalent Azure certification preferred.Compensation / Work ModalityThis role is 5 days onsite in San Diego, CA and offers compensation from $140,000 to $180,000 base salary plus a bonus.
