Powertrain Engineer

Position SummaryThis position focuses on the design, development, and validation of engine installations and cooling systems for diesel-powered off-highway equipment. The successful candidate will work with the Powertrain Engineering team to develop cost effective designs that meet product requirements and support validation activities from concept through release. Primary ResponsibilitiesDesign and develop engine installation systems including: Engine and hydraulic cooling packages, Exhaust aftertreatment system integration and tubing design, Fuel system integration, Engine isolation and mounting systems, Air cleaners and intake piping, Surge tanks and coolant plumbingDevelop component and system design requirements that define functional, performance, durability, packaging, thermal, vibration, and validation expectations.Develop technical design requirements and engineering specifications for powertrain components and systems.Support cooling package development through: Cooling fan selection, Heat rejection analysis, Review of CFD results and cooling system performance analyses, Packaging studiesDesign engine mounting and isolation systems and verify that isolation performance meets design requirements.Use engineering analysis and test data to evaluate engine-mounted component structures and ensure durability and vibration requirements are met.Prepare component and system validation plans, including vehicle test requests.Evaluate vehicle test data and prepare information for engine application documentation.Support issue resolution during prototype builds and product validation.Collaborate with cross-functional teams including structures, hydraulics, controls, manufacturing, suppliers, and test engineering.Create and maintain engineering documentation required to support design release. Desired QualificationsDegree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.3+ years of experience with off-highway, agricultural, construction, mining, automotive, truck, or industrial equipment.Experience with engine installation design.Experience designing engine cooling systems.Experience developing engineering specifications or design requirements.Experience evaluating cooling performance and validation test data.Experience with engine-mounted component design and packaging.Working knowledge of CAD (Creo preferred).Familiarity with CFD results and thermal analysis.Familiarity with vibration and durability validation is desirable.Experience working with diesel engines in the 18–74 kW range is preferred. Preferred ExperienceFamiliarity with drivetrain components such as gearboxes and planetary torque hubs and axles. Work LocationPreference will be given to candidates who can work onsite in Frederick, MD or Hagerstown, MD
