Position Type:SubstituteDate Posted:6/23/2025Location:To Be DeterminedPosition: SubstituteSchool Nurse RN PoolSalary: Hourly rate of $35.14-$43.13Status: Non-ExemptTerms: Normally 7.5 hours per day but may be greater depending upon the needs of the systemSalary: HourlySupervisor: Administrative: Director of Student Services Clinical: Nurse Manager Direct: Building PrincipalAvailability: 2025-2026 School YearJob Description: The school nurse will plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate school health services within the context of the Coordinated School Health Program and Comprehensive Student Services Program Model.Minimum Qualifications:Current Maryland RN License in good standingCPR/First Aid CertifiedWilling to serve as a Case Manager/Delegating Nurse to CMT's and other unlicensed staff in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act and other pertinent sections of COMARServe as a Wellness Champion for your schoolExcellent written and verbal skillsAbility to follow oral and written instructionsOutstanding organizational and interpersonal skills, including, but not limited to, the ability to interact successfully with diverse stakeholders (i.e., students, staff, administration, parents, general public, community agencies, etc.)Proficiency in a variety of technology and applicationsSuccessful management of confidential information and materialsHistory of initiative, discretion, leadership, and independent judgmentDemonstrated understanding of and attention to detail, especially as it relates to student safety and well-beingHistory of professionalism and strong work ethicAbility to work independently and as a team playerAbility to serve as a positive role model for students, staff, and other stakeholdersAbility to maintain emotional control while addressing stressful situationsAbility to stand, sit, walk, climb stairs, stoop, bend, push, pull, and move objectsAbility to lift and transport heavy to moderately heavy objects physical education-related materialsDexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment and provide subject-related demonstrationsRegular and predictable attendanceAbility to perform the essential functions of the job either with or without reasonable accommodationsPreferred Qualifications:Two (2) years RN experience with young children and adolescentsUnderstanding and knowledge of the following in context of a school environment: Pediatric/adolescent nursingPublic health/community health nursingHealth counseling, including mental health and crisis interventionCommunicable diseasesApplicable laws, regulations and standards pertaining to school nursing practice (Maryland Nurse Practice Act, Standards of School Nursing Practice, and the Eight Components of a Coordinated School Health Program, FERPA, and HIPPA)School health lawSpecial education and 504 legislation and services, particularly as related to the role of the school nurseCase finding, case management, and health advocacyHealth room management, including personnel supervision of LPNs and CMTs Family theory, assessment, and interventionNetworking and collaborationEthnic and cultural sensitivity and competenceContemporary health and psychosocial issues that influence children, families, and the communityHealth care delivery systems and the concepts of the primary health careBuilding student, staff and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, selfadvocacy, and learningSchool as a non-traditional healthcare settingEnvironmental health within the school community Familiar with electronic health recordsDuties and Responsibilities:The following duties and responsibilities are intended only as examples. The omission of a specific duty or responsibility does not exclude it from the position if the work is a similar, related, or logical assignment.The school nurse will:Plan, implement, coordinate, and evaluate school health services within the context of the Coordinated School Health Program Model.Collaborate with the school-based Pupil Services Team to identify and provide for student health care needs as part of comprehensive Student Services case management. Make appropriate, independent, and timely nursing decisions.Administer medications and provide appropriate services in accordance with students' needs.Develop and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, and other stakeholders.Maintain accurate and complete records as required by the school, applicable programs and agencies, law, Board Policy, and Administrative Procedure.Collect data to direct evidence-based practice.Interpret and explain records, reports, activities, healthcare plans, accommodations, and medical interventions.Identify health-related barriers to student learning (i.e., at-risk behaviors, financial, cultural, economic, etc.).Maximize in-class time by reducing the incidence of health-related absenteeism.Eliminate or minimize health problems which impair learning.Promote the highest degree of independent student functioning.Promote student, staff, and other stakeholder awareness of and participation in healthy behaviors and wellness to improve attendance and student performance and outcomes.Serve on special committees, as necessary.Monitor appropriate use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.Account for and order program equipment and supplies, as necessary.Attend and actively participate in staff/faculty meetings and appropriate job-related professional development, as approved.Contribute to the short-term and long-term successes of students, staff, school, and the system in general.Maintain confidentiality at all times.Engage in life-long learning of professional and technical knowledge by attending appropriate workshops, reviewing professional publications and websites, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional organizations.Present courteous and professional demeanor at all times.Demonstrate proficiency, flexibility, self-motivation, accountability and ownership, and positive demeanor.Perform other duties as assigned.Questions: Should you have questions and/or require assistance with accessing or completing the on-line application, contact the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations at 301-334-8904.Accommodation Requests: In the event you are contacted for an interview, please notify the Office of Human Resources and Employee Relations at that time of any reasonable disability-related accommodation requests.
