As a mid-sized medical campus, it blends the resources of a larger center with the personal attention of community healthcare, is committed to rigorous quality and safety standards, and is widely trusted for compassionate care and excellent patient experience—making it a convenient, top choice for families seeking expert healthcare close to home.The Director, Medical Laboratory will lead 24/7 clinical lab operations in a high-acuity setting, overseeing chemistry, hematology, coagulation, urinalysis, microbiology, molecular, and transfusion services while supporting ED, ICU, OR, and inpatient/outpatient populations. Daily responsibilities include staffing and scheduling across multiple shifts, mentoring supervisors and technologists, managing budgets, vendors, and inventory, ensuring CLIA, CAP, Joint Commission, and OSHA compliance, safeguarding biosafety and exposure control, maintaining analyzers and POCT programs, validating new assays and test menu expansions, monitoring quality control, proficiency testing, and turnaround-time KPIs, optimizing workflows with Lean/Six Sigma, directing specimen collection, processing, and courier logistics, ensuring accurate LIS/EHR interfaces and critical value reporting, leading incident investigations with root-cause analysis and corrective actions, preparing for inspections and internal audits, coordinating with pathologists, nursing, infection prevention, and antimicrobial stewardship teams, and presenting performance dashboards and quality improvement plans to executive leadership.What's Needed To SucceedDegree from an accredited Medical Technology or Clinical Laboratory Science programLicensed as a Medical Lab Technologist (MLT), Medical Technologist (MT), or Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP)Proven leadership experience in an acute care hospital settingDiscover a welcoming riverfront community in southeast Iowa with an affordable cost of living, family-friendly neighborhoods, and convenient access to regional employers in healthcare, manufacturing, education, and agriculture.
