Project Engineer I - Construction

SEG is seeking a Project Engineer I to join our team in Hamilton, Virginia.The Project Engineer I is a developmental construction management position designed for an early-career professional looking to build hands-on experience managing commercial and institutional construction projects.Working alongside SEG’s Project Managers, Superintendents, and field teams, the Project Engineer will gain exposure to all phases of construction—from estimating and preconstruction through project execution and closeout. This position is intended to provide the experience and management skills necessary to grow within SEG’s Project Management or Field Operations teams.What You’ll DoSupport Project Managers and Superintendents throughout all phases of constructionCoordinate and track RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, and other project documentationMaintain project logs, controls, and documentationAssist with subcontractor pricing, buyout, purchase orders, and subcontract administrationSupport change management, including obtaining pricing, preparing estimates and proposals, and maintaining change documentationAssist with quantity takeoffs and project estimatingHelp develop and maintain project schedulesReview drawings, specifications, and shop drawings to support coordination of the workAssist with project constructability reviews and value-engineering opportunitiesHelp identify potential project issues and work with the team to develop solutionsSupport project closeout and turnover activitiesParticipate in project and staff meetingsVisit project sites as needed throughout the regionWhat We’re Looking ForBachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field, with 0–3 years of commercial or industrial construction experience; OR 5+ years of directly related experience without a degreeBasic understanding of construction means, methods, drawings, and specificationsStrong organizational and analytical skillsAbility to communicate effectively with project teams, subcontractors, and clientsComfortable working with spreadsheets and construction-related softwareAbility and willingness to travel to project sites within the regionEIT or other construction industry certification is a plusOSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and USACE/NAVFAC CQM certifications are preferred or may be obtained as part of professional developmentWhy SEG?SEG performs commercial and institutional construction with a strong focus on federal government projects, including work for agencies such as GSA, NPS, and USACE.As a smaller company, our Project Engineers have the opportunity to work closely with experienced Project Managers and Superintendents and gain exposure to more than one piece of the construction process.
