Maintenance Planner
Purpose/Scope
The Maintenance Planner will provide coordination, direction and support for implementing and sustaining asset reliability processes to improve safety, equipment reliability, and product quality at optimum efficiency and costs. In addition, a planner needs to look weeks ahead and further for necessary occurences by forecasting future needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Coordinates work priority with operations and maintenance management teams.
Develops maintenance plans and schedules approved non-emergency work to safely and effectively increase “wrench time” and maximize efficiency.
Identifies specific task-related safety hazards and develops safety procedures, including lock-out/tag-out, to be incorporated into maintenance work plans.
Prepares and provides printed work packages for weekly, scheduled down day and plant outage maintenance activities.
Ensures timely completion of preventive maintenance and predictive work orders within Work Execution Management timeline specifications.
Identifies and documents planned job requirements and writes clear and concise job plans.
Gathers and maintains necessary technical documents, specifications and drawings.
Estimates required hours on work order tasks, total work order duration and skills required to perform the task.
Procures equipment and specialized tools required to perform work
Determines and arranges for parts and equipment required to perform planned work, in cooperation with procurement.
Develops and maintains optimal inventory plans and assists with inventory management for equipment and critical spare parts using Reliability Centered Maintenance methodologies
Continually updates and maintains Bills of Materials (BOM) in CMMS
Upon completion of jobs, communicates with maintenance technicians regarding ideas and procedures to improve current job plans
Ensures all work orders are processed through work-flow in CMMS from creation to completion
Continually maintains not less than 2 weeks of ready-to-schedule backlog at all times.
Generates CMMS reports that are utilized in all aspects of managing proactive maintenance
Updates CMMS for new equipment installations, equipment modifications, job plans, preventive maintenance, and predictive maintenance
Participates in outage planning activities such as scope identification and control, scheduling, coordination, risk assessment, execution, and continuous improvement.
Participates with reliability personnel on improvement projects, particularly when they are related to the proactive maintenance plan.
Works with engineering on new capital installations and upgrades and assists in the development of equipment specifications to ensure that preventive and predictive maintenance tools can be implemented effectively.
Participates in safety programs to help reduce accidents throughout the plant.
Monitors and reports Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to support Asset Reliability assessment and improvements
Maintain vendor relations
Basic Qualifications
H.S. diploma or equivalent
Other Required Qualifications
Mechanical aptitude in hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, conveyor and auger systems, air systems, water systems, overhead cranes and wheeled vehicles
Basic understanding of electrical, hydraulics, pneumatics, HVAC, conveyor and auger systems, air systems, water systems, overhead cranes and wheeled vehicles
Able to read and interpret manuals, drawings and blueprints
Able to communicate clearly and effectively with maintenance personnel, vendors/suppliers, and management personnel
Familiar with Preventative Maintenance Programs
Able to organize and plan tasks
Self-directing – Able to work toward specific goals and objectives with limited daily oversight
Familiar with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Familiar with Project Management Software (Project, Primavera, etc.)
Preferred Qualifications
Two (2) year technical degree or equivalent
Three (3) years’ work experience in skilled trades
Experience with CMMS
Physical Requirements
Plant/Yard: Move minimum of 50lbs., spatial awareness/depth perception, walk, climb, bend at the waist, reach, forceful use of hand tools, vocal projection
Work Environment
Plant/Yard: All types of weather conditions (year-round, Mid-west and Northeast), dirt/dust, noise from heavy machinery/vehicles, vibrations from machinery and vehicles, loud noises, little to no climate control, varying amounts of light, stairs, narrow walkways.
This position has an anticipated salary range of $60,000 - $75,000 annually. Actual compensation will depend on experience, skills, internal equity, and business needs.
