HOME PRODUCT DESIGNER

Job DescriptionWe are seeking a creative, self-motivated designer who is passionate about product and all its moving parts, from ideation through manufacturing. In this role, the Product Designer assists the Creative Director to drive the design process by working with US-based retail customers, creating original 2D and 3D illustrations for home decor and utility products. Communicating with overseas industrial engineers and design staff may sometimes be required so details are always a must. Candidate must have strong illustrative and a true sense of dimension with a portfolio emphasis on home décor (e.g., bath accessories, kitchen organization, storage). He/she will exemplify this in various materials such as ceramic, metal, resin, plastic, glass, and wood among others. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented with the ability to adapt to changes and multi-task in a fast-paced environment. Responsibilities·      Assist in the product development and design process across multiple categories to create innovative collections that are trend and retail relevant·      Ability to take original ideation to final sample and production phase of development·      Create original design renderings with functional product applications for presentation purposes in 3D format with multiple viewpoints including orthographic and perspective angles.·      Coordinate processes across a global team of sales, product managers and overseas designers to develop a strong assortment of product with tight deadlines·      Translate fashion trends into realistic product concepts that respond to changing needs for each product category·      Provide all product specifications to factory in mechanical drawing format with exact measurements and proper callouts in an effort to create samples for the US market·      Design and create simple packaging prototypes·      Potentially attend industry and design trade shows·      Shop everyday stores on a regular basis to better develop an understanding of the market needs and competitive shopping·      Provide presentation materials for internal use and external customer meetings·      Generate creative and useful solutions in a fast paced, self-starter, changing work environment·      Remain receptive to feedback and execution in a timely and professional mannerQualifications·      Portfolio with technical, illustrative drawings and sketching abilities a must·      BFA in product/industrial design, textiles, industrial design or related degree.·      5-7+ years of solid professional work experience in design and product development of home products for mass and specialty retailers.·      Proficiency with 3D modeling software and Adobe Suites·      Ability to develop product with a keen sense of trend, salability in the marketplace and a true understanding of product manufacturing.·      Knowledge base of materials such as: metal, ceramic, wire, resin, and plastic and glass.·      Preferred candidate has previous hard goods bath and/or home product expertise.·      Knowledge base of additional manufacturing processes such as stamping, casting, injection molding, forging, extruding for rapid prototyping is a plus.Benefits·      Hybrid model with four days in office (located in Central, New Jersey)·      Benefits include Medical Insurance, Flexible Spending Account·      401(k) Retirement Plan
