Assistant Project Manager, Self-Perform
SUMMARYMortenson is currently seeking an experienced Assistant Project Manager, Self-Perform in our Data Center Solutions Group to support the planning, coordination, and execution of self-perform scopes from preconstruction through project completion.This role partners closely with the Project Manager, Field Leadership, and craft teams to drive productivity, cost performance, and quality of self-perform work. You will play a key role in aligning estimating, operations, and field execution while leading and mentoring project team members. Strong communication skills are essential, as you will collaborate across project teams, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders in a fast-paced, dynamic environment. Your ability to remain flexible, proactive, and detail-oriented while maintaining a high level of integrity is critical to success in this role.RESPONSIBILITIESSelf-Perform Scope LeadershipSupport planning, coordination, and execution of self-perform scopes of work, ensuring alignment between estimate, schedule, and field operationsPartner with Field Leadership (Superintendents and craft teams) to drive productivity, safety, and quality performanceMonitor and track self-perform production rates, labor performance, and cost trendsIdentify risks and opportunities within self-perform scopes and proactively implement solutions Preconstruction & PlanningCollaborate with Preconstruction on self-perform estimates, logistics, and execution strategiesSupport development and alignment of project schedules and sequencing for self-perform workAssist in constructability reviews with a focus on means, methods, and field execution Financial & Cost ManagementPerform cost control and financial tracking specific to self-perform scopesReview and manage contracts, budgets, and cost forecasts related to self-perform workAnalyze cost performance and support forecasting, reporting, and variance management Procurement & BuyoutLead and support procurement of materials, equipment, and self-perform resourcesAssist in buyout and management of trade partners that interface with self-perform workEvaluate supplier and subcontractor performance and recommend strategies for improvement Execution & CoordinationCoordinate self-perform scopes with subcontractors and other project stakeholdersFacilitate coordination meetings to ensure alignment of self-perform and subcontracted workSupport implementation of quality plans and ensure adherence to design and performance criteriaProvide direction and support to ensure safe, timely, and efficient project delivery Leadership & Team DevelopmentProvide direction, mentorship, and coaching to Project Engineers, Field Engineers, and early career team membersSupport career development, training, and performance management within the project teamAct as a liaison between project management, field leadership, and self-perform teams Additional ResponsibilitiesPerform on-site Project Manager duties for small or discrete self-perform scopesBuild strong working relationships across diverse teams and organizational levelsLead by example, reinforcing Mortenson’s safety culture and core values QUALIFICATIONSBachelor’s degree in Construction, Civil, Architectural, Mechanical, and/or Electrical Engineering or equivalent experienceMinimum 5+ years of construction experience, with exposure to self-perform scopes or field operations preferredProven ability to support delivery of complex, field-driven scopes of workStrong understanding of construction means and methods, labor productivity, and field execution strategiesDemonstrated experience in cost tracking, forecasting, and schedule coordinationDetail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environmentWorking knowledge of construction contracts and industry best practicesIntermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office, project management tools, and web-based applicationsStrong communication, leadership, and problem-solving skillsCurrent driver’s license The base pay range for this role is $102,000 - $137,700.(Actual range is higher for the following office locations: Denver, CO and Chicago, IL – 5%, Seattle, WA, and Portland, OR – 10%, Washington, D.C. – 12.5%.)Base pay is positioned within the range based on several factors including an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience, with consideration given to internal equity.A Few Benefits Offered Include:(for Non-Craft & Non-Union Craft working 25+ hours / week)Medical and prescription drug plans that include no additional cost vision coverageDental plan401k retirement plan with a generous Mortenson matchPaid time off, holidays, and other paid leavesEmployer-paid Life, AD&D, and disability insuranceNo-cost mental health tool and concierge with extensive work-life resourcesTuition reimbursementAdoption AssistanceGym Membership Discount Program Please Make Note:Visa sponsorship is not offered for this position.Our postings are typically open a minimum of 5 days and an average of 44 days.
