Duties commonly listed in a Press Brake Operator job description include using blueprints to properly set equipment, operating a brake press and conducting inspections to ensure that finished materials meet design specifications.PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIESStudying blueprints and specification sheets to understand technical requirementsSetting a computer-controlled press brake to project specificationsEnsuring proper positioning and alignment of metal inside the press brakeMonitoring the pressing processMeasuring and inspecting the finished sheet metal to ensure it matches specificationsTroubleshooting and addressing problems that arise during the pressing processPerforming routine maintenance on the press brakeComplying with all health and safety standards in the manufacturing facilityKNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIESEducation / ExperienceMinimum High School diploma or equivalent.Minimum 1-4 years' experience in direct operation of CNC press break equipment.In-depth understanding of the parts of a press brake and how the machine worksComputer skills to operate CNC softwareAbility to remain upright and perform repetitive movements throughout most of a work shiftArithmetic skills to perform measurements and calculate settingsAbility to move heavy or large pieces of sheet metal from one place to anotherObservation skills to monitor the pressing process and inspect metal after pressingKnowledge of health and safety regulations for the manufacturing industryFamiliarity with blueprints and the terminology used in technical specification sheetsSkillsExcellent knowledge of blueprint readingStrong analytical, observational, and time management skillsSheet Metal Fabrication skills a plusAbilitiesMust be able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to 40 lbs.Must be able stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl 5% or less of the workdayMust be able to talk, see, hear, concentrate, think, and reason.Ability to wear PPE as required.Must be able to stand for prolonged periods of time throughout the workday.Must be able to use a keyboard and do manual tasks for prolonged periods of time throughout the workdayThis position is classified as safety-sensitive because impairment while performing job duties could pose a significant risk of harm.
