DescriptionPosition SummaryThe Yard Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the equipment yard, ensuring efficient workflow, safety compliance, and high-quality service. This role combines hands-on coordination of yard activities with supervisory responsibilities, including staff management, equipment readiness, and interdepartmental communication. The Yard Supervisor ensures that all yard operations support the company’s service and rental goals while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe environment.Position Duties/ResponsibilitiesPrimary Responsibilities:Oversee daily yard operations including equipment check-in/out, staging, detailing, and minor repairs to ensure workflows remain on schedule.Supervise the yard team: assign tasks, provide performance coaching, and manage hiring, onboarding, and training processes.Ensure safety and compliance with company policies and OSHA/industry regulations; maintain a clean and hazard-free yard environment.Coordinate with service, rental, and logistics departments to ensure equipment is prepared, delivered, or returned in a timely manner.Monitor inventory: conduct daily audits, update records in the yard-management system, and document equipment status.Diagnose and perform minor mechanical repairs or escalate issues to the service department as needed.Train staff on software and tools related to dispatching, inventory control, and maintenance tracking.Inspect yard facilities and equipment regularly to verify safety, cleanliness, and operational readiness.Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and customer satisfaction.Ensure friendly, prompt, and helpful customer service, providing the model for customer care.Fulfill the role of Yard Coordinator by performing tasks such as loading/unloading, staging, and managing paperwork whenever necessary.Position RequirementsRequiredHigh school diploma or GEDValid driver’s licenseMinimum 4 years of experience in equipment operations or yard coordination1 or more years of supervisory experienceAbility to conduct self in a professional manner and assist with conflict resolutionBasic mechanical aptitude and the ability to share that knowledgePreferredA Class B CDL preferred4 years or more of experience with Caterpillar equipment/technology4 years or more of experience in supervising staff in customer service fieldKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesThe requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
