Position SummaryThe Volunteer & Community Engagement Manager leads the strategy and execution of Akin’s volunteer and in-kind engagement programs. This role mobilizes individuals, community groups, and corporate teams to support families across Washington through meaningful, well-coordinated engagement opportunities.Working within Akin’s ecosystem-of-care approach, this position plays a critical role in building pathways from community participation to deeper connections and philanthropy. This role focuses on engagement execution and program design, partnering closely with local leadership and Fund Development team members to activate relationships, support donor growth, and strengthen community impact. This role builds scalable workflows, deepens community relationships, and drives meaningful engagement that contributes to programmatic impact and long-term philanthropic growth.Essential FunctionsVolunteer & Community Engagement StrategyDesign and lead a comprehensive volunteer and community engagement strategy aligned with Akin’s strategic and fundraising goalsDevelop scalable models for individual, group, and corporate engagementPartner cross-functionally with program, development, and MarCom teams to align opportunities with community needsPartner with program teams to align volunteer opportunities with real-time family and community needsEnsure volunteer engagement supports broader organizational goals, including visibility, access, and donor pipeline developmentVolunteer Program LeadershipOversee recruitment, training, scheduling, and management of volunteers across multiple sites and programsEnsure high-quality, inclusive, and impactful volunteer experiencesBuild systems to effectively match volunteer skills to organizational needsMaintain consistent standards, policies, and practices across all volunteer programsIn-Kind Giving & Donation ProgramsWork closely with the development team to develop and lead Akin’s in-kind giving strategy, including corporate partnerships and community drivesIdentify and prioritize donation needs in close partnership with the Family Resource Manager and program teamsSecure and manage large-scale in-kind contributionsOversee tracking, valuation, and reporting of in-kind donationsWorkplace Giving & Matching GiftsManage employee giving programsLead Double the Donation and matching strategyWork in close collaboration with the Fund Development team to expand corporate participationDevelop pathways to convert volunteers into donors in partnership with Annual Fund Manager.Corporate & Community PartnershipsCultivate and manage relationships with corporate partners to expand volunteerism and in-kind supportDesign and host corporate engagement opportunities (service days, kit builds, donation drives)Partner with Development team to grow corporate pipeline and partnership opportunitiesPartner with Event & Corporate Partnership Manager to support corporate relationships.Coordinate with Director of Community Engagement to avoid duplication of outreach.Data, Systems & ReportingOversee volunteer and in-kind data tracking within CRM systems (Virtuous)Monitor KPIs including volunteer hours, engagement rates, and in-kind valueGenerate reports to inform strategy and demonstrate impactRecognition & StewardshipDevelop and implement recognition strategies for volunteers and in-kind donorsPartner with MarCom to tell compelling stories of community impactIn close collaboration with the development team, create pathways for volunteers and partners to deepen engagement into donorsKnowledge, Skills, And AbilitiesKnowledge of volunteer management, community engagement, corporate philanthropy, in-kind giving, and nonprofit fundraising principlesSkill in building and maintaining relationships with volunteers, donors, corporate partners, community organizations, and internal stakeholdersAbility to develop and implement volunteer, community engagement, and in-kind giving strategies that support organizational and fundraising goalsSkill in recruiting, training, coordinating, and recognizing volunteers across multiple programs and locationsAbility to manage multiple projects, priorities, partnerships, and events while meeting deadlines and maintaining high-quality serviceSkill in data management, reporting, CRM systems, and analyzing engagement metrics to inform strategy and demonstrate impactStrong written, verbal, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills, including storytelling and donor engagementAbility to collaborate effectively across departments and build pathways that deepen volunteer and community engagement into philanthropic supportProficiency with Microsoft Office, CRM databases, and volunteer management platformsAbility to work independently, exercise sound judgment, maintain confidentiality, and represent Akin professionally within the community.Working EnvironmentTypical office lighting and temperaturesModerate interruptionsAbility to work in a confined areaAbility to sit at a computer for an extended periodLimited travel to other site locations within the stateHybrid Work ArrangementsHybrid work is a benefit of Akin’s flexible workplace but cannot be offered for all positions. As required by various pay transparency laws, we share a competitive range of compensation for candidates hired into each position.The target starting pay for this position is $36.27 - $43.52 per hour, typically within the first half of these ranges. Actual offers will be based on individual qualifications relevant to the role and will not take an applicant’s pay history into account.The range above allows our employees room for growth during their tenure in the position.
