Material Handler/Equipment Operator

Description:Scrap Management Industries is looking for a Material Handler/Equipment Operator to add to our growing team. This position requires the expert, safe operation of various types of heavy equipment to move, organize, stack, load and unload processed and unprocessed scrap metal. The ideal candidate will have grapple and magnet experience.Requirements:Operates heavy equipment in compliance with the company operating safety policies and proceduresMoves and positions raw materials and finished components with use of material moving equipmentConducts routine equipment inspections and preventative maintenance on equipment; maintains accurate records in the form of pre and post shift inspectionsMonitor and maintain all production equipment, i.e. material handlers, front end wheel loaders, track excavator with shear attachment, semi tractors, rail car mover, skid steer, balers, shears, etc.Properly follow company and OSHA safety proceduresExpected to report any defects or needed repairs to supervisor immediatelyWilling to cross-train in other positions and assists other employees as neededEnsure a clean, safe and orderly workplace; clean and prepare sites by removing debris and possible hazardsFollow instructions from Shredder & Maintenance SuperintendentMust be able to identify and sort various scrap metal commoditiesSafely categorize and stack scrap metal materialAttend all scheduled training and meetingsAll other duties as assignedEducation and Experience: The minimum level of education and experience required to perform the job at a satisfactory level.High school diploma or equivalentMinimum of 3 years previous experience operating heavy equipmentExpert knowledge of heavy-equipment operating principlesKnowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The minimum level of knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the job at a satisfactory level.Ability to adhere to scheduled hours with dependability and consistencyAbility to adapt to a constantly changing landscapeAbility to work well under the pressure of meeting demands and deadlinesExcellent professional presence and work ethicMust be able to identify scrap metal commoditiesAbility to work in a fast-paced, non-stop environmentAbility to understand and carry out written and oral instructionsAbility to operate equipment under varying working conditionsWorking knowledge of hazards and safety precautions common to heavy equipment operationsEnglish (preferred); Bilingual a plusSafety: Environmental or atmospheric conditions commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job.Strictly adhere to all health, safety, and environmental standardsFollow all safety guidelines and protocol, including wearing of all PPEAdhere to all local, state, OSHA, and environmental regulations
