Salary Range:Outside MachinistJob DescriptionPosition SummaryBoston Ship Repair is seeking skilled Outside Machinists to perform repair, maintenance, and overhaul work on a wide range of shipboard machinery. This role involves hands-on work in an active shipyard environment supporting vessel operations.Key ResponsibilitiesInstall, align, and repair pumps, motors, generators, propellers, shafting, bearings, compressors, and hydraulic systemsOperate, troubleshoot, and repair hydraulic equipment and systemsUse torque wrenches (metric and standard) to meet precise specificationsPerform alignments using dial indicators, micrometers, and other precision toolsConduct dock and sea trials to verify equipment performance after repairsRead and interpret blueprints, manuals, and job specificationsSet up and operate portable machine tools, including boring bars, drills, and grindersWork on large vessels in an active shipyard environmentSafely perform work in confined spaces, at heights, and in varying conditionsQualifications3–5 years of marine, industrial, or shipyard mechanical experience preferredStrong knowledge of hydraulic systems and torque applicationsSkilled in the use of hand tools, measuring instruments, and alignment equipmentAbility to read and follow technical drawings and detailed instructionsAbility to lift up to 50 lbs and work in confined spacesStrong commitment to safety and quality workmanshipWork Environment & Physical RequirementsShipyard and shipboard conditions, including heat, cold, humidity, noise, and moving equipmentRequires standing, climbing, kneeling, and lifting throughout the day
