Position Summary:
The HSSE Specialist plays a critical role in supporting safe, responsible, and compliant operations across oil and gas assets. Applies well developed knowledge of health, safety, social and environmental practices to identify and control workplace risks, support operational teams, and strengthen the company's overall HSSE performance. The role contributes directly to maintaining regulatory compliance, fostering a proactive safety culture, and ensuring operational integrity through field engagement, incident prevention, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Supports the development, implementation, and continual improvement of the company's Operational Management System (OMS). This includes helping translate corporate HSSE expectations into practical field level processes, supporting the maintenance and rollout of HSSE procedures, monitoring compliance with OMS requirements, and collaborating with stakeholders to ensure that controls, documentation, and performance measures align with organizational standards.
Responsibilities:
Provide fieldlevel HSE leadership for drilling, completions, and production operations, ensuring full compliance with federal, state, and internal company requirements.
Conduct scheduled and adhoc site inspections, hazard assessments, and behavioral observations, identifying improvement opportunities and contributing to measurable reductions in incidents and enhanced leadingindicator performance.
Participate in and at times lead portions of incident investigations using recognized root cause analysis methodologies, supporting accurate causal analysis and driving timely, effective corrective actions.
Deliver and facilitate safety training, orientation sessions, and toolbox talks for field crews and contractors, improving engagement and strengthening safety culture across diverse operational teams.
Support the deployment and consistent execution of company HSE programs, including Life Saving Rules and annual safety initiatives, ensuring alignment between corporate leadership teams and field operations.
Coordinate emergency preparedness and response activities, including drills, spill readiness assessments, equipment checks, and contractor alignment with site emergency plans.
Build and maintain strong relationships with frontline employees, field leadership, and contractors, enabling practical, fieldfocused solutions and fostering a positive safety environment.
Support environmental compliance activities, including field inspections, waste management oversight, spill prevention activities.
Oversee contractor HSE compliance processes, including prejob reviews, onboarding, training verification, and ongoing performance monitoring.
Contribute to implementation of the Operational Management System (OMS) by aligning field HSE activities with key OMS elements such as Leadership & Commitment, Risk Assessment, Operational Control, Documentation & Communication, and Assurance & Tracking.
Required Skills:
Knowledge of Spanish or Arabic is preferred but not required
Understanding of Oil and Gas operations
Proficient in Microsoft Suite
Required Experience:
Bachelor's Degree
Ability to work safely and supervise operations in high-risk environments.
Requires 5 plus years of HSE experience encompassing both frontline and backoffice responsibilities, along with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
Experience in developing and monitoring management systems, specifically safety, quality or environmental management systems, preferred.
Physical Demand and Work Environment
Capable of working in outdoor conditions.
Exposure to extreme weather conditions
Must be physically able to climb stairs, operate valves and pumps and perform maintenance work.
Must be able to lift 25 pounds at a time
Possesses the physical ability to work extended hours (if needed)
Travel up to 25% of the year domestically (1 week per month). Current domestic operations are in North Dakota.
Able to drive a company vehicle. Must possess a valid driver's license with a good driving record.
