SummaryThis position is eligible for the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) - a student loan payment reimbursement program. Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply.DutiesThe Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) Certified Nurse Practitioner (NP) practices in Mental Health Service to provide a full range of services emphasizing quality - timeliness - and the advancement of the Veterans Affairs (VA) missionThe NP provides advanced clinical practice - consultation - and managementMajor duties include - but are not limited to: Independently manages a panel of patients with acute and chronic mental health conditions with an emphasis on health promotion and disease prevention using evidence-based practiceAssess - diagnose - monitor - manage and treat mental health diagnoses (DSM-5)Develops and implements an individualized plan for psychiatric treatment of substance abuse (acute and chronic - including detoxification)Accurately completes mental health history - relevant health history - physical examination - and biopsychosocial assessmentAdministers and interprets standardized measures to assess patient outcomes and progressDemonstrates leadership and works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary teamOrders and interprets labs - tests - and diagnostic studiesPrescribes pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic interventionsProvides counseling and education to patients - families - and caregiversAssesses and adjusts the plan of care as needed to achieve optimal patient outcomes and meet mental health goalsConsistently demonstrates expertise in diagnosing and treating seriously ill - multisymptomatic patientsDocuments in the electronic health record (EHR)Exemplifies the ICARE core values of-Integrity - Commitment - Advocacy - Respect - and ExcellenceMaintains current working knowledge of VHA regulations and guidelines - Joint Commission (JC) standards - and other standards pertinent to services providedVA offers a comprehensive total rewards package: VA Nurse Total Rewards Pay: Competitive salary - regular salary increases - potential for performance awards Paid Time Off: 50 days of paid time off per year (26 days of annual leave - 13 days of sick leave - 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VA Insurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement) Licensure: 1 full and unrestricted license from any US State or territory Work Schedule: Monday-Friday8:00am-4:30pm Telework: Yes - per agency policyVirtual: This is not a virtual positionRelocation/Recruitment Incentives: Not AuthorizedEDRP Authorized: Former EDRP participants ineligible to apply for incentiveContact vhaedrpprogramsupport@va.gov - the EDRP Coordinator for questions/assistanceLearn more Permanent Change of Station (PCS): Not Authorized.
