Volunteer Fire Fighter
Firefighter The purpose of the position is to contribute to the comprehensive City Fire Rescue and Emergency Services program. This position performs technical work in the field of emergency response in the application of the prevention, control, and suppression of fire; emergency medical care; and in response to natural and human-made disasters. Examples of duties include responding to fire alarms and emergency medical service calls with other personnel, laying and connecting hose, raising and climbing ladders, searching structures to locate persons trapped or injured, using hand tools to ventilate structures, operating motor vehicles, administering first aid, performing CPR, and other emergency medical procedures as required. Carry out all instructions and orders given by line officers. Ability to exercise sound judgment and discretion in decision making and all phases of responsibilities. Performs other duties as required. Typical qualifications include being 18 years of age and possessing a high school diploma or equivalent, having a valid Florida Driver's license, passing a criminal background check, passing a physical/medical evaluation, and residing within Crystal River or within close proximity to the city limits. Supplemental information includes preferred or required training: Florida Firefighter Part I (or ability to fulfill Florida reciprocity requirements), First Responder, Hazardous Materials Operations level, Incident Command (1-100, 1-200, 1-700, 1-800), and Emergency Vehicle Operators Course (EVOC).
