Specialty Claims Examiner
Key Responsibilities
Coverage review: Evaluate coverage by reviewing the first notice of loss and policy terms; issue disclaimers or reservation of rights letters when appropriate.
Comprehensive investigation: Conduct thorough investigations, including liability and damages assessments, witness interviews, scene inspections, and evidence gathering.
Independent adjuster oversight: Engage and direct independent adjusters, ensuring complete and accurate investigative work.
Liability analysis: Apply statutory and case law to assess liability exposure and ensure joint tortfeasors contribute appropriately.
Reserve management: Establish and maintain accurate reserves that reflect ongoing claim developments.
Claim resolution: Manage files proactively, negotiate settlements with claimants or attorneys, oversee defense counsel, and drive effective litigation outcomes.
Reporting: Prepare detailed reserve authority requests, reinsurance reports, serious loss reports, and coverage position letters.
Collaboration: Partner with underwriting, compliance, and actuarial teams to share insights that support product performance and profitability.

Qualifications
Experience:
Associate Claims Examiner: 2+ years of relevant experience
Claims Examiner: 7+ years of relevant experience
Background: Prior experience as an examiner, adjuster, paralegal, attorney, or in another transferable role.
Preferred:
Excess liability claims experience
Multi-jurisdictional knowledge, advanced degree, and/or JD
Expected hours: 35.0 per week
